| So I got a SD-2 Dual Overdive the other day. It rocks- the lead channel is especially sweet. It has a remote in jack, but I don't have a footswitch, so just for kicks I plugged my SD-1 in there. And when you turn it on, it activates BOTH channels- the Crunch and Lead. The LED goes orange (a combo of the green Crunch and red Lead) and all the controls work. The resulting tone is very cool and has lots of range. I might blow up my pedal, but it is a neat trick if you got one of these! |

jallen, that's a really odd discovery! did you mean that both the SD-1's controls and the SD-2's controls work when used that way? and did you have to plug anything into the SD-1's input jack to turn the SD-1 "on"?
finally, I wonder if other Boss pedals with a remote jack (OD-2r, DS-2) can also be (ab)used this way? |

The remote input is expected the switch to be "open" or shorted to ground. My guess is that you plugged into the output jack of the SD-1, which would typically put something like a 1K resistor in series with a 100K resistor to ground. This must confuse the logic chips in such a way that one sees this as open and the other as closed, so they both turn on their respective circuitry. I tried to recreate this last night, but my SD-2's remote switch doesn't seem to work at all. I remember using it a few years ago with the remote switch, but I didn't have the time to spend on it. If I have any insoghts, I'll post back.
Grace and peace,
Steve

Whatever phostenix said seems right!
Pawnshop- both of the SD-2's controls work; the SD-1 (or DS-1- I tried both) does not control anything. |
