Here's another blast from the past, one of my all time favourites. I owned it for 5 years, drove 106.000 km's in it, had a lot of parts break down on me, but I still loved her nonetheless, until I traded her in for newer model with a 2 liter DTI engine, but that's a different story
Here she is, a 1998 Opel Astra wagon, with a 1.7 TDS (Turbo Diesel) engine made by Isuzu, those engines are unbreakable.

| I know you're from the Netherlands, but this summer I went to UK on holiday and noticed that A LOT of people had station wagons... What's up with them? I don't really like them, with very few exceptions. |

Hey Fenderstrat86, nice pickup It reminds me of the Dukes of Hazzard
@Mansun, why a lot of people buy stationwagons in Western Europe? I don't know, convenience I guess... At least, that's why I got one, and I just bought the 4th wagon I ever owned. 2 Astra's, then the Focus and now the 206 GTI. I actually like this model better than the 206 hatchback.
You can haul a lot of stuff in it, in my case band stuff, drums, guitars, amps, speaker cabs, you name it. A pickup truck wouldn't be convenient here since it rains a lot of the time. |

Thanks Dirk. It was basically the only thing I could afford to buy at the time, being in high school and working at McDonald's. I bought it because I needed a vehicle before I could ask a girl out on a date that I had met. I couldn't ask her to go out on a date with me and ride her on the handlebars of my ten speed. So that's the only reason I got that truck at the time and the only reason I felt that it was special to me years later. I sold it though in the fall of 1985, only owned it for a little over one year. I sold it less then a year after I had restored it |

@Dirk, Funny, 'cos the 206 SW is one of the very few exceptions that I like. It's true you can take more thing with you. I had a Citron Xantia sedan as my first car and I could carry everything I ever needed to. Sadly, I never needed so much space until after I got rid of it and bought my little beast aka Clio.

So, to keep this thread alive, here's the car I had in between the black Astra and the Focus.
A silver Opel Astra G wagon, with a 2.0 liter DTI engine. I loved it but the inevitable happened: It's a shame I had to sell it, because I'd gotten a company car and did most mileage in that one since then. And since the road taxes for diesels are a ridiculous lot higher than for petrol powered cars, I just couldn't afford it any longer. It's still a crying shame, cause it was the best car I ever owned, not counting the 206. After this, 2 more to go. My first and 2nd cars.

Picture this car in red and you'll know what my current car looks like, station wagons rule imo, it is only the second station wagon i own but i would not go back to a normal sedan, i can (and do ) throw anything in it, my dog has a lot of space and i can throw all of my gear in it without having any problems.

Just to revive an older thread, I found a picture of the 2nd car I had, this wasn't exactly mine, but I had one just like it. I had it for one and a half years, drove 45.000 km's with it and eventually traded it in for the black astra wagon cause it just isn't built for driving a lot on a daily basis, not to mention all the tools and stuff I had to stash in that little car.
A '95 Opel Corsa Joy edition in pacific blue with a 1,5 liter Turbo diesel engine. This was probably the cutest car I ever had. Even the clocks on the dashboard and the knobs from the heating/ventilation were in the same color as the car.
So that makes 5 down, 1 to go next time, my very first car

I outfitted mine with these barrels, 15 inch 195 wide, the biggest size allowed on a car this size.

We have a 02 Mitsubishi Spacewagon for the family car... two adults,3 children,2 dogs and a load of other stuff when were on the move(including usually a guitar) and a station wagon makes a lot of sense..... |
