My 2 cents... NOTHING is a dated effect. It may be out of fashion, overused or poorly used, but great musical minds can use the worst thing to pleasant ends.

Think of how dated wah was in the 70's. It went largely unused in the 80's rock scene, but then people like Satriani and Vai (and many others) made it new and popular again.

That goes for not only effects, but entire genres of music. Look what Pulp Fiction did for instrumental guitar, surf, etc. All of these college kids saying, "Wow, have you heard this new song"?

To me its dated, but once in awhile it sounds good and you need yo use it

I've only been playing for a few months now. I have a PODx3 now. I've been playing with the effects. When i turned on the chorus, I was instantly in love. But then again, I like all the modulation effects. Just not overdone.

Over the top.. seldom; strong effects.. sometimes; but subtle & wise use.. ALWAYS!
