i have an acoustic-electric that has undersaddle pup and preamp which sounds good. however, i'd like to use also a small microphone (like a shure mc-2) inside the soundhole to get the strings sound. can i splice in the mic with the preamp? or do i need another preamP? thanks
You could try it but i'm not sure if thats possible with a preamp that was originally made for a undersaddle pickup on it's own as the way you EQ the the piezo might induce feedback with the mic in the soundhole,normally there is two volumes so you can balance one against the other and find a happy compromise with the EQ plus i think the output jack is in stereo so you can split the signal at the desk to two channels with a 'Y' splitter lead.....i know that some companies make preamps for dual and tri source pickups...Dean Markley make one for a soundhole pickup and undersaddle with a built in mic as well ...also Boss had a external preamp that had two inputs to accept two different sound source form the one guitar it was designed for a magnetic soundhole pickup in mind but might work
or you could try the mic with a external D.I box and EQ it on one of the channels at the desk ..it would mean running two cables from your guitar though...
