I guess you guys don't follow the vintage market that much.He is pretty close to what they sell for. You alos have to remember that a 59 les paul goes for about 250k right now

Zerk's right.. but this is only worth 15k if they're DOUBLE-WHITES with VIRGIN SOLDER. The pups should be almost $2k each as they are here.

Remember, if you have a '59 which is lacking original parts, this cost outlay is nothing compared to the value increase you'll receive when the real hardware is repatriated with the guitar.

That's why I said "no way"...I don't do the vintage market. I watch it but I don't do it because it's ludicrous. I'm not about to pay a quarter million dollars for something and then stick it under the bed. My guitars are played, not collected.

I believe guitars are meant to be used, not stored. That's where me and George Gruhn part ways. But I know those that will shell out the bucks for stuff like old LPs, Strats, Teles, Gretsches, pre-war Martins etc. Not me. My guitar that I gig with is probably just as good intrinsically as a '59 Les Paul...in other words, it does what I want it to at a lot less price.

To each their own...just not for me.

That said, I wouldn't throw a '59 burst out of bed.

There IS something about the Mahogany (not even so much the maple) which was being farmed for the old Gibsons. Without weight relief, most of those axes are a very reasonable weight - something almost impossible with most widely available mahogany nowadays (hence the common weight-relief holes in the mahogany under the maple, and the current-issue CHAMBERED or 2-PIECE [or both] bodies, which is a travesty in the Les Paul world, IMO.)

High-grade re-issues tend to be made with the very best mahogany available, and those will likely achieve a similar effect to that in the old ones.

I didn't realize the vintage market was that ridiculous, cause I just smoke crack, and people think I am crazy

JUST KIDDING, I don't smoke crack cause I have no dreams to be mayor of Washington DC (look up Marion Barry if you have no idea what I am talking about)...
