Can't think of a fifth one offhand, but I'm sure that this live Fu Manchu album will end up on my list too.
Its been awhile since I've listened to Evilive, but what you're describing sounds a lot like various MC5 and Iggy & The Stooges live albums and bootlegs I have and enjoy. I believe in Metallic KO you can actually hear Iggy getting hit by a beer bottle. Its interesting that the Fu Manchu live album has been mentioned several times, as it is one of my favorites, and glad to see others dig it as well... |

I've heard that about the bottle breaking on Metallic KO too.
I guess I have to say that in general I'm not a big "live album" fan, but there are a few that I dig. It seems that the sound is either too good to be actually recorded live (ie: KISS Alive, which is in fact an elaborate hoax), or the sound is total crap. I have to be into a band pretty heavily to buy a live album - but I guess it's just to have the complete collection and new versions of old favorites. Any other thoughts? |

I never really considered myself a live album fan, but then when I started the thread it made me realize how many live albums I do like. To me there are some bands that just sound better live, like George Clinton-Parliament/Funkadelic, I have seen them live several times and have been blown away, but most of the studio albums just don't have that same magic that the live set does. Then there are certain live albums that have songs you can't get elsewhere like Hawkwind's Space Ritual. So I don't know if I have a general rule about live albums, other than if I really like a band I can let sound quality slide. And then of course there are some bands that are no longer around and its just nice to have an archive of their live show regardless of how good or bad it sounds. |

Definitely some good points which I agree with. There are some bands that I will get live recordings of even if they sound like crap, just because I love the band. This seems to go double for me if the band isn't around any more and I never got to see them perform live.
Didn't mean to sound rude in my earlier post. That wasn't intended at all. |
