hi. i just dug up from my collection an 80's Ibanez pt.3 powertrio pedal which has distortion/overdrive, chorus and delay. the overdrive is not really good(it just lowers the level), but the distortion is like a tubescreamer with a little more gain, the chorus has only speed and width, while the delay can go up to 2seconds. i was using the chorus as an effect for my acoustic but i like the sound of the boss chorus better. i saw only one for sale cheap on ebay. i was planning to trade it for a boss metalzone or overdrive. is it a good trade? |

That was a great concept, having basically three pedals in one unit. Basically like a floor multi-effects but with regular knobs. There was also a bass version, with compression, graphic eq and chorus, and one for acoustic guitars.

You know, someone could make a new version of that. They could call it the ME-50. |

thanks for the replies guys. i'm still trying to decide whether to trade it up or keep it. who knows it might be collectible someday.its a great concept tho, three must have pedals in one without the daisy-chains and with real time control. i always am wary with the digital-preset/programmable type of pedals, my presets might go up in smoke in the middle of a solo. with knob-type pedals, i can always see my settings.with five or six separate pedals on a board, the only problem is how to turn on two pedals at the same time but we have found ways to go about this, like a loop or turning your foot sideways or tap-dancing. hey caliban, you got me there! there is really an me-50 and it looks good! probably a little expensive too but it could take the place of a lot of pedals, but i like my individual pedals too. |

A bit late but I finally found the pics again of an older series of floor multi effects Ibanez released.

great pictures dirk! i remember looking at these pictures in guitar player and wondering what an auto filter or a compressor/limiter was since i had only experience with the overdrives, flanger and delay.they seem to be big units, kind of like dinosaurs compared to the multi-fx of today. by the way, i have decided to keep the pt-3 and use it exclusively for my acoustic gigs. i opened it up the other day and it was pretty crowded in there with numerous opamps: 10 5218's, 2 5238's, 2 3102's and 1 each of jrc386d and tl0220p. i also saw 5 trimpots: 2 for chorus and i for delay time.i couldn't find out what the other pots did but i'll keep you guys posted. i fiddled with the delay time a little bit it has now about 2.5 secs of delay. i also turned the trimpots for chorus to make it more stronger or "chorusy", almost getting into the range of flanging if you max it out; the other pot increases the level of the chorus somewhat. i think it now makes my humble acoustic really distinctive. |

hi guys, its me again. can somebody tell me where the clipping diodes of the pt3 are? i could experiment on it but the pcb seems a little flimsy for repeated soldering. i plan to change the stock diodes with leds to make it more of a boost rather than od/dist, anyway its exclusively now for my acoustic. thanks. |

Hi leonard d rock
While I don't know the circuit for this unit, but I have played on many years ago at a friends home.
It may not use didoes for clipping OD-Dist. A lot of the older OD-Dist, units just used cascading-multiple gain stages.
Op-amp into another op-amp or transistor into another transistor. to get the high levels of gain and OD-Dist.
Sort of like what we talk about here sometimes, with running one boost pedals into another boost pedal for overdrive.
But then again , I might be wrong.
Can you upload some pics of the PCB's? We might be able to help you sort things out.
Regards Dr. Bob |
