Christmas season is over, gift money is all spent, income tax refund checks probably all burned through by now as well -- at least for those who filed early (mabye in the summer when the late filer refunds start to arrive you'll see some more activity). All of this here is from a U.S. perspective, of course.
Hard to say, though, really. Mabye it's just a short term thing, or when the individual pedals are going up for bid versus how many people are looking for one of them at that moment. Mabye there's an ebb-and-tide thing happening, perhaps.

| Thanks to the genius management team at Ebay, anyone selling an item can click a link directing to the current selling prices for the item. This takes all the excitement out of it. Now everyone knows the values of everything, now everyone is an expert. There is no emotion to buying, just click the link and join the robotic masses. Problem with that is the rare made in Japan models now seem to have ceilings. Also you can't relist an item at a penney and recieve final value credit if it originally listed as fixed price or buy it now. Before you could list an item as fixed or bin and if it didn't sell relist at a penney and get reimbursed. Selling (on Ebay) is no longer fun at all. It's a buyers market. |

i agree. its getting harder and harder to find deals these days. as corncake stated with ebay now, and guitarshops and even pawnshops are starting to check the finished listings on ebay to see the average selling price. anyone that is a collector knows the feeling of going in to a pawnshop and seeing a holy grail in mint condition with a 20 dollar price tag on it. |

I've definitely noticed a slump in prices since the 1st of the year. Since I'm trying to sell off a bunch of stuff, the timing isn't good for me. I suspect that prices will stay down on average items until after tax day. Rare stuff seems to still be high, though.
Grace and peace,
Steve

New pedals, the more expensive ones, are definitely coming down. I just purchased my DD-20 brand new for $179.00. My RC-20XL was $199.00. You couldn't get either of these for less than $240.00 a year ago.
Some pedals are still holding their own on Ebay though. A used CS-3 is still hitting $65.00 w/ shipping. Not bad, even when they have 50 of them listed! |

Since at this point I am mainly a buyer, I wouldn't mind seeing a dip, but if I were a seller, I would be worried... |

I dont think that the prices on collectible Boss pedals will be getting lower as time goes on. Sellingprices might get lower for example after Holiday seasons when everyone spent their money. Good deals can still be made of course, even though its getting harder as pointed out earlier.
Talking about deals...I have been on holiday for the last four weeks and found an FT-2 Dynamic Filter in really nice condition the other week in a musicstore in a city I was visiting, and got it for around $ 90. I bought it and felt that it was a good price for such a rarity. |

| i agree totally that you can still find decent deals, but the majority of 2nd hand music stores and pawn shops check ebay, and base their prices on that. whereas before ebay was around, they might think that a SG-1 and a SD-1 should both have a $50 price tag.. |

I agree. Ebay has made it a lot easier for sellers to get info on specific pedals and their value. Easy access of information is what makes many sellers aware, and make good deals harder to come by these days. |

Then again, the pawn shop/ebay relationship has come to my rescue on more than one occasion. Last week I picked up a perfect dd-6 for $70. They thought it was like a dd-3 and didn't know any different.
I saw the USED DS-1 next to it for $70 as well. They thought it was like a Keeley, so they upped it. Moral of the story is that a lot of people still don't get it, so keep an eye out and it could still work in your favor.
I still see the stock ds-1's on ebay are still holding up surprisingly well despite their mass availability, which is a good baseline for Boss pedals. |

Definitely not a good time to be a seller right now. The last time I sold pedals I did make a little on each item I sold, but I still didn't get what I should have for most things. It's weird how the market has these waves, but I suppose it's to be expected. What goes up must come down.
The more rare pedals are definitely still holding their value it seems like. I just wish that there were more of a constant, where there's a baseline that is a consistent average. I'm not selling stuff to make a killing, but I'm not selling for the fun of it either. When I buy these days, of course I look for bargains... Who doesnt'?
I don't necessarily see this recent drop as a sign of things to come. There are a lot of good points made above that explain some of the possible reasons. Let's just hope that things get back to normal from the selling standpoint and embrace the situation as buyers while it lasts! |
