I don't think the black label is original. What you have there is a DD-3A. The first model had dual in line chip that was just fitted across the PCB. Yours have the square chip that indicates thatt it is a DD-3A.
The dead giveaway is however that DD-3A is printed on the PCB |

I have a Blue label MIJ DD3, and a Blue label MIJ DD2, if what is on the site is right than my two delays were made within months of each other. so i think that the DD3 you have may have had the backplate replaced. |

| Yeah, I'm sure that someone just swapped out the bottom plate with another pedal for some reason. All the DD2s and DD3s I've had always came with blue labels. |

The first DD-3 pedals were identical to the DD-2s. After changing the DSP chip the internal name changed to DD-3A so that's the later version.
Andi, do you know if the bottom plate of your DD-3 is original? |

| I'm not sure if the change to the new chip happened before or after the move to Taiwan. |

| ok guy i got it from said it came from at least way back to 1996..theres no serial label in battery compartment heres some explaination he gave me "the memory chip is a different size than the ones they currently use the switch is different than the ones currently used . there's something about about extra markings on the newer ones that they had to add to comply with newer international shipping laws that the older ones didn't have. " it heavier than new ones too |

After looking at all of my DD2s and DD3s (2 of each), I have found that all are MIJ Blue Label. Perhaps it could be that in the Far East, the MIJ labels stayed black for some time? Could be that they used the blue labels to indicate that the pedals were for export sales. Hard to say I suppose. |

Reviving a very old thread here, but it has proven to be the closest to what I need so far.
The circuit board pictured looks almost identical to my Taiwan DD-3a. I say almost because one of the ribbon cables is a different colour.
My DD-3a has a blue Taiwan label. Interestingly the original box says 'Made in Japan'. Sneaky huh?
Please if anyone has pics of a little further up the circuitboard, I just need to know where the two wires for the battery connector attach to the board. I'm guessing that the red (+ve) wire goes to point '3' at the top of the board, and that the black (-ve) wire goes to the input jack. If anyone can confirm I would be grateful, thanks.
Edit>> I soldered in the two wires, red to board point '3' and black to a tab on the input jack. I get a lit LED when I insert a battery and a guitar cord, so hopefully that's it (unless it still lights even though I've got the 2 wires the wrong way round..) Will test it when I get my guitar back up & running. Regarding my quote above about the box, I'm assuming they had 'Made in Japan' boxes left over when production moved to Taiwan. It wouldn't have worried me back then anyway, but nowadays I suppose it could cause confusion if someone is looking for a 'Japan' DD-3. |
