I found this pic somewhere else, but here's the link to the Indica site www.indica.fi
Wow... had a listen to a couple of their tracks. Finish sounds weird when sung!... okay so it's pretty weird when just spoken aswell... I spent a few days in Helsinki a while back and was dissapointed that I didn't hear more of the native toungue, every one spoke English so well...
In any case, that is a very hot band.
(to any Finish-speaking people out there: I'm not bagging your language, it's actually quite interesting, it just sounds so strange to me... I guess because it's not related to the European group of languages which is what I'm used to hearing).

That's right. It's a different language family than English/German/French/Italian/... These are Indo-European language while Finnish is a Finno-ugric language. Sounds cool indeed!
(Sorry for the OT.) |

Hey Witloofboer, You wouldn't happen to be interested in linguistics would you? Knowing that Finish is part of the Finno-Ugric language group is a pretty obscure piece of knowledge... A few years back I read a book which was basically a survey of the extant Uralic languages (Uralic being the parent group of Finno-Ugric). It wasn't a particularly exciting book to read, but I do have a minor obsession with languages...
OT again... sorry. So here's a pic to make up for it - this is my friend Tani (keyboardist) playing in her band Brunatex:

I did consider studying Russian & I have to say that it still interests me, but I ended up studying electronics engineering (which is a work in progress ). One of my friends studies Finnish & it was him who told me about the Finno-Ugric language. |
