Does anyone know what the difference is between the greypanel units with the colored knobs and the blackpanels with the white knobs.
Or is it just a cosmetic thing that they've changed through the years.

I have an '85 greypanel RDD-10 and a '90 blackpanel RCL-10.
I'm very fond of both units, after all these years they're still topnotch quality, not noisy, really good.
I used to have a pedalboard with a cs-3, odb-3 and a ce2b on it, which I've replaced with rackmount stuff.
I know, pedals are a lot more fun, I still have a bunch which I won't sell but rackmount is just a lot more practical in a band situation.

Anyway, how about those grey and blackpanels?

I don't think there's any difference between the units. I believe it's just a design change that was made through the production time of the units.
I have a black panel RPS-10 with cloured knobs so there's also some transition models that's only halfway changed.

hi
according to an insider at the Boss Corp. here in Australia, they ran out of coloured knobs and went to the plain colour. The grey face was a change in the later made runs of the models. This could have been just talk from the Boss Guy, but I can see it being fact. I had a 2 units that had non original knobs and got hold of the proper colour ones, they where supposedly the last in stock anywhere on the globe (maybe another leg puller??) I bought them for a buck each. The Micro racks are great, I am tring to find someone with a scanner to upload some of the manuals and service manuals for micro users, but at this point with no luck...sorry guys I am trying.

I didn't want to start another Microrack thread, so i'll ask here - Does anyone know if the ROD-10 is analogue or digital? The dictionary says "five independant circuits" which to me suggests analogue, but i've read elsewhere someone claim it was digital...

The ROD is an analog unit so you're not wrong.

Sound a bit weird that they ran out of coloured knobs. These knobs are identical to the ones used on the compact pedals. Green (PH-2), yellow (OD-2), orange (DS-2), blue (DD-3) just to mention a few examples.

I tried to order orange knobs from Roland Scandinavia but the lady there (and she has helped me a lot of times before and after) told me that they just had the grey ones and they couldnīt order the other colours from Roland/Boss as they didnīt have article numbers for the others (or something like that) in their replacement parts catalogue.
The same goes for the bottom plate screws, no article number.
Would be interesting to know if the goes for the rest of the world?

Ok, thanks that clears things up a lot although I'd expected something like this.
I've seen it with other manufacturers as well.
By chance, if anyone can come up with a decent manual for the RDD-10 that's a little more detailed than the one this site, I'd be even happier with an otherwise excellent unit.

i have service manuals for most of the micro racks, but no scanner.
I hope to buy a scanner in the next month or so and will upload.
Roland here searched for the knobs for me and I bought all the stock they could get for me which turned out to be exact amount I needed to replace non original knobs on a few of the units I bought.
