for thick, heavy overdrive i'm really liking the fulltone bassdrive II w/ 18v adapter. i usually use this with bass, but the box had a label saying 'great for guitar' & i finally gave it try. adds lowend for a fuller sound.
2nd is a recent purchase. an ibanez ss-10: distortion/chorus. the distortion can go from a solid overdrive to full on metal distortion & the chorus helps to fill out the sound. 2 cool things about this pedal is that you can easily access the chorus' trim settings & it has a series/parallel switch.

i really like the big muff pi for rock type stuff.
for metal, ive tried many distortion pedals, and in my opinion, nothing beats the MT-2.(with an EH-2 after it of course) |

Without a doubt: Marshall Guvnor (first version)!
When it comes to Boss distortions I like my old and slightly modded DS-1 best. |

| These days for me it would have to be my MT-2 that has been modded by Keeley. I just ordered a DS-1 mod from them, and that should be here by the end of the week, but the MT-2 mod is awesome. I thought the stock MT-2 was great, but the mod just makes even better IMO. |

I second the Marshall Guv'Nor MK1 (Original Version)
I also really like the Marshall Bluesbreaker Mk1 (Original Version) for Bluesier/Slight overdriven stuff. |

For milder overdrive tones, I like my Boss Blues Driver. I also have a Czech-made custom copy of the TS808, and it actually sounds sweeter than the BD-2 but the BD-2 has more bass, which is what I prefer. On my pedalboard there is also a Marshall Jackhammer - my favorite for a long time - and a new BB-2 Bluesbreaker. The BB-2 is in the loop to boost the volume. And I really like my Zoom Ultra Fuzz UF-01. I also had the original Guv'nor and it was great, althoug I'd love it to be a tad louder. |

I like all my distortions for different reasons. Big Muff Pi for a fuzz sound. DS-1 for drop B Tuning (B-F#-B-E-G#-C#),OS-2 For a thick distortion,DF-2 for the feedbacker, and one hell of a distortion for any tuning, SD-1 for a very light overdrive/boost, and the HM-3 for a really heavy distorted part! I know I use too many distortion pedals, but I like the flexability of having them for different textures. The distortion on my Ampeg is like nothing I've ever heard before (Actualy it was a friends amp, but the specs are the same as mine and he had the EL-34 powertubes in it.)Think if Mesa Boogie and A Marshall Had a one night stand, and there was a bastard offspring that had a really bad attitude... That's what this amp sounds like to me. But the distortion pedals are there for different sounds. Oh yeah! The amp is an Ampeg VL1002 100 Watt all tube head. Needs to be fixed, but the price was right! |

| I think Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age uses Ampeg amps, but its hard to know for sure what he uses since he tends to keep what gear he uses a secret. |

This ones an older model. from the 90's. it's really high gain! It was designed by lee jackson, so it's a good one but the power tube board is burnt in one spot so I have to get it replaced. but when I get it fixed i'm gonna be in hog heaven! |
