Recently I googled after the volume loss fix for the TR-2, and on stinkfoot's website http://www.stinkfoot.se/english/mods/tr2mod_en.htm I saw that new TR-2's might not need the volume loss fix anymore. Does anybody know when the change happened (serial number/year) or what stinkfoot means with the "green triangular sticker with the letter "R""? |

I think the green sticker with the R on it,is to show that the pedal is RoHS complient...i.e Boss used lead free solder in the construction of the insides so possibly when this was introduced was when Boss sorted out the problem,as it had generated some discussion on the net...so maybe thats what Stinkfoot was saying about the volume fix mod becoming redundant and the sticker, not 100% on this but i think it was around 2006 or possibly a little earlier....
P.S. the mod AFAIK was a simple on the only needed the removal of i think was C4...some reviews i read has complaints of the mod making the TR-2 sound a little colder.... BTW ihave one of the later models and it's on my 'board fulltime....love this pedal.... |

I have also seen some comments on the removal of C4(?) altering the sound a little, opinions vary as to whether this is a negative change or not.
I opted for the slightly more difficult change of R9 to 4.7k (is 10k stock) which sorts out the volume loss with no change to the sound. You can try other values to get it exactly how you like it, the lower the value the louder it will be when on.

I have to admit that the volume loss never bothered me too much before, and I'm using the TR-2 (I have two of them from 1999 and 2001) quite a while. Maybe that's because I almost automatically boost the volume a bit with my CS-3 in front of the TR-2. No I also have a PN-2, and compared to the TR-2 the PN-2 even boosts the volume a bit itself. I think however the volume differences are not to big, so no need for me to do a mod here. |

The RoHS-compliant TR-2's were redesigned with a slightly higher output level. The green sticker on the box indicates that the pedal is one of the later models (the RoHS directive went into effect in mid-2006, so any pedals imported into the EU after that date had to be of the newer spec).
Removing C4 (on the older models) does not change the volume. It is part of the LFO circuit, and could therefore have some effect on the waveform (the shape of the wave), but it is nowhere near the actual (audio) signal path. I tried it, and didn't hear any difference whatsoever...
To raise the signal level, you'll either have to lower the value of R10 (a resistor on the input to the gain stage) or raise the value of R12 (the feedback resistor in the gain stage).

I do pop by from time to time, but time doesn't always allow me to participate as much as I'd like to. It's good to be here when I get the chance, though |
