You need a SP3T switch for on/on/on operation. These are easiest to find & implement with a slide switch but can be found in mini-toggle configuration.

Hi flegstrogs and welcome!
The DPDT switch configuration has, by definition, only two positions (DT = "double throw" = two position).
Switches are denoted by the number of "poles" - the number if separate circuits that they switch (this is the "P" in the switch type). Plus the number of "positions" - known as "throws" (this is the "T" in the switch type).
A DPDT switch can switch two circuits (poles), and is two position (throws).
So it's not actually possible to wire a DPDT switch up for on/on/on 'cause you need three positions. As DeFrag has shown, it needs to be a XP3T, where the "X" is the number of "poles" (contacts) you need.
I think what you are looking for is a variation on DPDT called "DPDT, center off".
There is a good introduction to switches here: http://www.gaugemaster.com/instructions/switches_explained.pdf

Hi flegstrogs
Unless it was a misspelleing (orayt tnx) , can I please ask you & any other members to not use SMS Speak unless it's a really common abbreviation. like TXT.
It makes it really difficult to read messages, I for one made a concerted efforts to not learn the 500-1000 different misspellings for common words & phrases.
It might be an age related thing. But It came to crunch time for me, when one of my apprentices, handed in a 500 word essay, written totally in abbreviated SMS Text. And then refused to understand, why I asked him to rewrite it. Before he was marked on the assignment
Regards Dr. Bob. |
