I have about 65 or so Boss pedals right now. A few are duplicates. Needless to say a lot of these do not get used. If I kept the pedals I use and all of the most collectible pedals regardless of use, I could still sell off about half of my collection. I figure I could raise over 2000 USD. Maybe as much as 3000 if I got real agressive with the selling. That money could go into buying a new amp and/or guitar that would get a lot more use than the pedals being sold. I am having a hard time justifying all these pedals that do not get used. The only thing really holding me back is a concern that I might suffer from post pedal depression after I sell them. 
Anybody here ever sell off a large part of your collection? Did you regret it? Are you now buying back pedals you sold in the past?

| I'd say take it slow, perhaps sell a few duplicates you have and see how you deal with the parting of ways from part of your collection.... |

| Yes, I will probably start off slowly. I actually will keep some of the duplicates as they are some of the more collectible. The thing is though if I do sell anything, I want to at least raise enough cash (1500 USD) for a decent guitar or amp. If I do not make it that far, I probably will not be happy. |

I was planning on selling my whole collection except for 3-5 a while ago. I was going to raise money for a new amp. I had a couple buyers set up, but I was giving them one last play, and I just couldn't get rid of them. I quickly called up everyone who was going to come to cancel. One deal was supposed to be 5min from the time i called the buyer, but luckly he hadent left yet. So what im saying is you might go through pedal depression
I didn't need the money back then, but didnt have extra, so that could have been what stopped me too. Now I'm getting a little tight on cash, so I might have to rethink selling some.
Hope you can get some information from that |

My advice is that you should not sell until it�s really necessary for economical reasons. There is quite a possibility that Boss and other pedals will rise in value over the years to come, just like vintage guitars (not that amount of money of course). Or parts of vintage guitars for that matter, volume knobs from pre-CBS Fenders cost big money today.
Even if you don�t use your older pedals they are getting more valuable, I think it�s a good investment. Even rather new pedals could be valuable in a not to distant future.
If I had been wise to buy pre-CBS Fenders during the 70�s I would have been rich today, they were really cheap then.
Or if I started buying old Boss pedals 10-15 years ago, maybe not rich in this case but much better investments than having the money on the bank. And much more fun�
You have all seen the prices rise for not only the Holy Grails but also for DM-2/3, PN-2, PQ-4 etc etc

ive toyed with the idea as well. ive been interested in a Gibson ES-335 lately and those are NOT cheap. and after that i want a Orange Thunderverb head.
but when i go into the room, flick on the light, and see all the colors of my setup and "the shelf" i just cant do it. |

I thought yours were so shinny  , that they glowed in the dark,
so you didn't have to turn the light on.

I was never considering selling everything. I have duplicates of the DM-2, DC-2, PN-2 and I do not even plan to sell a single one of these. I am thinking more about some of the other pedals that I do not use and that also have less potential to increase in value. Do I really need two FZ-2s, two FZ-3s, two CE-2s, two TW-1s, two FT-2s, two MZ-2s? I might keep one each of those and sell the duplicates. Then there are the OD, HM, and BF series that I do not really use at all.
I am not desperate for cash or anything like that, but I do not have an unlimited budget either. It is difficult sometimes to have so much money tied up in these unused pedals knowing I could get more enjoyment out of a new guitar or amp. I will probably just keep my pedals. Once you get attached to these things it is too difficult to let go!

I know what you mean big boss man.... i don't collect pedals per se,most of mine have been on and off the board over the years but sometimes i feel like having a clearout on my gear and get something i would really use ..ie a good acoustic guitar...but i found out the hard way over the years by letting mainly guitars(a 335 and a les paul deluxe and a les paul custom) slip through my hands.... not to mention a 62 strat i should have bought.... but if you have two or three of the same pedal it might make sense to have a bit of a clearout.. i'm hoping to convert my garage into a studio for all my guitars and amps and recording gear during the summer cause there's another little franzoni on the way and i might need the space...!!!.... |

| I have had almost every Boss pedal there is at one time or another. I am down to two! Why? Not sure. Some keep resurfaceing(RV3s for example) I don't regret selling them at all. But if you are not in dire need of CA$H hold on to them a bit longer they will only go up. As my frined Jay says, "I remember when people wouldn't pay $350 for a '70s strat" those days are long gone. |

I started to collect Boss pedals a few years ago - around the time i discovered this site  - But after a while i realised that since i could never own them all and would certainly never use even a fraction of my collection, I ruthlessly sold all but the "essential" ones.
Having said that, if you have a spare FT-2 on your hands, i'd be very interested  - My TW-1 just doesn't seem to cut it.

I think the only ones you might regret selling are those for which you have some personal attachment. Maybe your first pedals, ones that were gifts, ones you have used to perform/record music and so on.
You can easily buy identical models if you miss them but it's never quite the same, they're not your original ones.
I'm a serial 'disposer of', I have a compulsion to get rid of things I don't use, and this has led to some regret over the years. At merely a dozen pedals I'm now thinking of scaling back to just the ones I actually need - as I've bought them all in the past 6 months or so it's not a problem, though I do still regret selling the pedals I bought in the 80s when I started playing guitar (even though I probably wouldn't use them much if I still had them, it's strange..)
