Analogue CE-5 is very nearly as nice as a CE-2.... |

| give me your thoughts about the CE-5. That seems like a more reasonable decision (cost wise). Compared to other pedals...specifically the CE-2...I tend to like more nobs so I can tweak more, but I know that's not always what makes a pedal good. |

I have an analogue CE-5, a digital CE-5, an MIT CE-2 and an MIJ CE-2.
The MIJ CE-2 is the best, followed very closely by the MIT CE-2 followed closely by the analogue CE-5. The digital CE-5 is a different beast altogether...

forgive my ignorance...how do you tell the difference between the CE-5 analogue and digital? Are they specifically labeled that way or do they look different?

You can find out on the home page. Here's a link to CE-5; http://www.bossarea.com/loadpage.asp?file=boxes/ce5.xml |

Overall I think CE-2 is the best, but CE-5 is also very good and much more versatile. CE-2B also sounds really nice, more subtle than CE-2. The worst, in my ears, is CE-3 BUT some of this forum likes them a lot.

That's my expereince too. I borrowed a MIJ CE-2 (from 1982/3) and A/B'd it with my MIT (serial missing) and after several tests could not tell any difference in tone. There was far more difference between the CE-2s and other models (such as CE-2B and CE-3) and I would agree the CE-2 is the nicest. The CE-2B sounds very similar but with a gentler bottom end, and the CE-3 has a rougher edge but stereo capability if you need it.
My choice would be the CE-2, but buying a MIT might save you thirty quid. |
