First I stripped everything off the guitar, till we had just the body...

Next we made the holes for the screws on the new bridge, and for stringing through the body...

Next the hole was routed to fit the Pearly Gates...

Pearly fitted...

Next, drilled the required holes in the new pick-guard, and dremmelled it to fit with the new pick-up surround / bridge ensemble...

Then the hole for the controles need elongated.....

Then, fabbed a new control plate out of scratchplate material, and mounted the controls on it, and slapped it on the geetar.....

And finally, the (almost) finished article.....

The two switches nearest the neck are wired the same as a mustang so that the pick-ups can be on/off and in/out of phase. The final switch is an on/on/on which allows the Pearly Gates to be split, series and paralell. I will need to take it to get professionally soldered, as my work isn't the best. Hopefully, I'll get that done at the start of next year!

That's very nice. I like the sound of a humbucker equipped Tele more than the original single coils and has always been drawn towards the Custom and thinline versions with humbuckers. |

really cool dasbeef...are the extra two pots 500k's for the humbucker...?? i did a more modest job on my silver series squier a while back, the picture is not great but if you look closely you will see a hot rails in the bridge position and i have a mini toggle to split the pickup between the two pots....the front pickup is a stacked single coil but with the same wiring for splitting as the humbucker so i wired it into the toggle as well..it gives me a more traditional tele sound when it's split...you won't get albert lee more of a danny gatton type tele sound...... i also put two 500k pots in a while back to give it a bit more 'bite'......

ChristoMephisto - Some of those wirings are pretty cool, but I wanted to be able to only have one pick-up on, and still have the in/out of phase option. The were ways that I could have wired it with less switches, but it was my first project, and it was pretty scary anyway!
FRANZONI - Yeah, I added 500k pots. Problem is I went for all linear, and I will be changing the linears on the tones for logorithmics before I get it professionally soldered. I have 'backward' wired them so that I can have both pickups on, but change the volumes on each indepedantly. Have 100% output from the humbucker, but only 50% from the neck. The neck pickup is just standard also, as I liked the sound of it.
Dr. Bob - I got the scratch plate from http://www.axesrus.co.uk . (this page in particular.... http://www.axesrus.com/axeplates.htm )
StratoSphere - Thanks man. This was my first and only project guitar. Unfortuneately, if you were to see my soldering hany work, I may not receive such a compliment! |
