imo, nothing currently on the market is close. everything is either too saturated or not saturated enough.
HM-2's don't go for much though... like $25-35 on ebay. |

Funny you mentioned Ebay on this one, i always keep an eye on ebay to keep track on the values of my pedals and noticed the HM-2 rising up in value quick. No matter if its MIJ or MIT, i even sold one of mine last week for €50,00 (68,63 USD) |

| Ah well, I guess the closest thing is the HM-2 setting on the Boss Drive Zone or the Behringer HM300 Heavy Metal pedal... |

buy a boston engineering, GTX, Harley Benton or Beta Aivin OD100 (same pedal, different brand). i sold mine because it didnt sound like an overdrive, it sounded like the Boss hm-2, for pete's sake. even when i modded it down, it still sounded like the hm-2. same layout, controls and sound. cheap ab0ut USD 24 but sturdy.

I got a HM-2 as part of a deal on CE-2..i only messed around with it a couple of times..i suppose one of it's most famous users was Dave Gilmour from the Floyd back in the mid 80's on his solo album and on the floyds 'a momentary lapse of reason'... some people aroud these parts think it might be a 'sleeper' pedal to hold onto..i would stretch the extra couple of dollars for the HM-2 if you see one.... |

HM-2's have pretty decent tone for what they are. it does the early 80's randy rhoadesish gain tone quite well... aka MXR D+ into a cranked single channel JCM800.
they have some feedback issues and the MIT versions are very noisy, but yah, i'm surprised there isn't more love for this pedal. it's more of a way saturated overdrive than a distortion box. |

| Yeah I definitely want to get one or something very similiar. Shawn Lane also used one as his main source of distortion on some of his albums with Jonas Hellborg. I think that he used his into a Peavey Classic amp. |
