http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazine/Issue/2009/Jul/Gibson_50s_wiring_on_a_Stratocaster.aspx

I have done this on most of my strats and I promise it works as the article says, highly recommended and very, very easy to do.

Great mod! I'll be sure to do this when I get a Strat. Tks!

Btw, here's SD's page for tons o wiring diagrams as a reference for you all... I thought it'd fit here.

I've done this on my LP, and it sounds and works great.
I also have coiltapping on both pickups for cool tele style sounds.
I love cleaning up my amp using the volume control, and this just makes it so much easier.

It only makes me wonder why on earth did Gibson change it in the 60's to the modern wiring? There has to be a reason for it.

Nice one Goran and DeFrag....

I put a copy of a Fender P bass (our singer pulled it out of a builders skip) back together last week.... i used a wiring diagram i got from the fender site of '62 P bass as a schematic, the original wiring was strange compared to Fender.. as it has a rosewood neck i went with the '62 diagram and it sounds pretty good for a copy..the el cheapo pickups are a bit naff and microphonic but playing wise it's very nice and does't sound too bad with the tone rolled back a little over halfway...

Goran ... have you any experience with wax potting pickups...?

No, but you can find how to do it on the net, just Google.
I have heard that its not economic to wax one or two pickups, the materials needed cost more than letting a pro do it.

Franzoni, why dont you buy pickups from a Mexican P-bass?
They usally go cheap (as people change to "better" picups) but are quite good.

Sounds like a plan.... i was playing it again earlier and even unplugged it sounds good, has a nice twang and resonance to it...the fingerboard is a nice piece of dark rosewood so i think it deserves a pickup upgrade.... handy having a bass ..now i have my drum machine, guitars, keyboard, mandolin and a bass .. so i have all the bases covered......sorry couldn't resist........

This wiring has a effect upon the over all tone depending on where the tone pot is wired to the volume.
http://guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=1885
Even tho it boosted/restored the highs when the volume is turned down low, turning down the tone reduces the volume to. I instead prefer a regular tone pot and a hipass cap.
