Dr Bob's thread about dynamic delay got me thinking about my DD-20. It's been out a while now and seems (from people's pedalboard pics) to be very popular. It's certainly much more powerful than the DD-2/3/5/6, but due to the slightly more complex architecture can be a bit tricky to exploit to the fullest.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks or favourite settings to share? I'll start off with:

1) Quasi ring mod: In reverse mode, set the time very short (i.e. 30-50ms), but be careful with the feedback as it can do a horrible self-oscillation at higher settings.

2) Loads of people probably know this one: You can double the maximum delay time if you use the pan mode but only connect the right output to an amp.

3) Set manual to SOS, and save a preset with infinite feedback on preset 1. Set to manual, record a loop and overdub some other parts, then switch to the first preset (SOS loop keeps going), then use tap tempo to set up a contrasting polyrhythm part over the SOS loop.

4) My favourite: The SOS looper preserves the stereo image of the input when it sends it to the outputs. I use an ABY pedal to send to either or both of the unit's inputs: This means that i can sample into just the left channel, then switch to the right input and record a totally different contrasting part. The two outputs are sent to radically different sounding amps (one completely clean, one with OD, reverb and tremelo), making it truly sound like two guitarist playing at once.

Great topic Leeroyfunk!
I don´t have any tricks, the DD-20 is so versatile that you have your hands full anyway…
What I usually do, and this is not a trick, is too set the manual and all the memories to the same/or about the same delay-time, but different delay-modes. Feedback about 90%.
Then I start a loop at the manual, you can then stop inputting more sounds by hitting the left pedal (start/stop) and solo over the loop. Want to add more to the loop, just start input with the left again.
Then I hit the right pedal, shifting to memory 1 and make a new loop while the one on the manual is gradually fading out. The same procedure as in memory can be performed.
Then I move on to memory 2 etc etc.
A volume pedal after DD-20 is also good to have. As well as an extra foot pedal to tap the tempo.

Here is a usable review on DD-20 as a looper:
