i ordered myself a nut off ebay last year. i think the brand name was Tusq. it was a "synthetic bone" nut. i figure if youre replacing the plastic nut, you might as well upgrade. but i really think a truss rod adjustment will fix this problem. its easier and cheaper than a nut change. by just replacing the nut, that doesnt fix the problem that your neck/fretboard is bowed, plus the action will be different on different parts of the fretboard.
a string tree wouldnt help either because the strings hit the nut first. or you could just sell it and buy drums
I like the idea of filling it with stomp box effects, it's semi-hollow so it would be easy to pack them in there. Maybe some of those new nano effects or possibly behringer ones that rip off Boss pedals.
I just looked and the Tusq pre cut nuts are only $10 with shipping, I'll do that for sure. But first I'll do the truss rod adjusment next week.
It wouldn't be worth selling the guitar to buy drums, I could maybe get a cheap snare for that price. Plus I already have a Tama Rockstar and a Roland Electronic drumset.
i forgot to mention that Tusq nuts come with an extra little piece attached to the bottom for the sole purpose of raising the nut height. they recommend to shave it down flat with a file if its not needed, but depending on how your truss rod adjustment goes, this may come in handy.
