| You are correct but it does mention that it is only on the inside PCB and not on the back plate itself. I would be still be suspicious of an MT-2 with a MIJ back plate. I've gotten in the habit recently of opening up any MIJ pedal and checking the PCB to see where it was from and so far I've only had MIJ all the way around for whatever it's worth. |

In regards to some of the posts that are debating the quality of MIJ vs MIT pedals, I have made a similar group of posts here previously. My findings when A/B comparing a couple of pedals that have both manufacture versions (without circuitry changes) were that there was extremely little difference to my ears. I do believe that the discussion in the past involved the taking into account of component tolerances, etc as well.
That having been said, I think that whatever tolerance differences exist between any given capacitors or resistors in any two pedals, regardless of being MIT or MIJ, will be present. We're talking about a multi-million dollar corporation that is mass-producing pedals to meet a price point here. I doubt that every component used is being individually tested for tolerance, therefore there is bound to be some difference even if the two pedals being compared were manufactured on the same day as each other in the same factory. I'm no expert, but that makes sense to me.

Most overrated: CH-1, SP-1 Most underrated: OD-3, CE-3, PH-3, PS-5
Actually, I think the OD-3 is one of the most underrated pedals ever made, overdrive or otherwise, period. I've done countless A/B tests between the OD-3 and stock and modified Tube Screamers, boutique overdrives, etc., and in my humble opinion, none of them can touch the OD-3. (Not even the BD-2--just my opinion, mind you.)
The CE-3 Chorus is one of the all-time great analog stereo choruses, in my opinion. You can't match its range of sounds, and that great Mode I stereo. Running Mode I through two Fender Twin Reverbs is an aural delight; it's a huge sound.
The PH-3 Phase Shifter can do it all. It has all of the other phasers ever made in it.
The PS-5 SUPER Shifter can't be beat for sheer versatility. It will probably always be one of my most favorite BOSS pedals.

Joel: As for OD-3 and CE-3 I have to agree to 100%. I donīt know why OD-3 is not more highly rated, itīs a very good overdrive in the same calibre as BD-2. And why donīt we see any mods of it??? Itīs good as it is I suppose. CE-3 sounds very similar to CE-2 but is a bit more versatile.

| Hello all: On the subject of MIJ and MIT. This sure seems a mystery. I have made many comparisons with my Boss pedals and I have to admit, I do notice differences, but not positive or negative differences, just things that would be personal preferences. Like one may sound brighter and one darker, etc. I totally agree with the gentleman who says two of the same pedals made right next to each other on the same day in the same factory probably sound different. I would like to comment on one very interesting thing. I have had a MIJ OD-2 for some time, and I just got an OD-1 in pursuit of tone. Even the differences in these two pedals seems all personal preference. My OD-1 has the JRC4558DD chip. It is a major mid-range beast with hardly any bottom end. The OD-2 actually sounds warmer and quieter which blows my mind. I thought the OD-1 was the holy grail so they say. It sounds like a Marshall with the mid-range cranked to 10! The OD-1 does have more grit certainly, which has its advantages. The OD-2 is quieter with less mids which also has advantages. So I will chalk it up to personal preference I suppose. You all have a Merry Christmas and rock on! |

overrated...SG-1 - so much money for so little of an effect. obviously for collectors. im not saying its a bad pedal, im just saying that if anyone spends that much money on volume swell, its probly for collecting/rarity.
underrated...EH-2...this breathes a whole new life into my setup. i would be hurt if it were ever lost or broken. everyone should own one. |

| i agree with you, the EH2 is great pedal. i really regret letting go of mine. last summer, a music store here in the philippines sold EH2's for only 55$ (approx), brand new. that was when i still had mine. now i'm searching on ebay for an EH2 preferably with a reasonable price and condition. sigh |

* OVERRATED : still have to find that Boss (non-Boss : Ibanez TS 808 - by a mile)
* UNDERRATED : SD-1 (imho, i think THIS is the MOST UNDERRATED pedal since the electric guitar - this is truly the unsung hero of all pedals)

most underrated...DD-5. more than the DD-3, less than the DD-6. perfect for me. |

i think both the CE-2 and the RV-2 are overrated slightly.
the CE-2 to me is a bit of a one trick pony (it's a nice trick tho) and i hav a nice reverb on my amp so i find the RV-2 to be completly surplus.
i think the BF-2 (used as a warbly chorus), DD-6 and PH-3 are underrated, great pedals. the DD-6 is the delay pedal to rule them all! |
