I once saw it on the website :

http://bossarea.com/other/vt1.asp

Then just yesterday, I came across one, so I bought it. I think I'll receive it in a week or two.

Has anyone ever play this thing ?

Ok, so I plugegd it quickly...

First, it seems quite new. The site (http://bossarea.com/other/vt1.asp) says 2005, I thought it was older, as I never saw one in a shop in 6 years.

It looks, in some ways, like a twin pedal. Same little plastic "T" to secure the power cable, same kind of multiple in and outputs on rear face. In, Out, AUX out, Remote (for a footswitch, controls the Bypass function).

It's quite simple, in fact. Just a pitch shifter. You set the pitch, the formant (kinda "tone" function), and the balance between dry and wet.

The "Robot" switch makes the shifted sound remain to a constant pitch, which is controlled by the Pitch slider. Kinda funny. When playing with the slider with your foot...

I must say I'm impressed by the quality of the sound. It really track well, even chords ! When playing chords, of course the sound is weird, but it does not goes crazy and unearable as with an OC-2 for example.

The Formant slider allows every kind of sound, from muddy (but strong) octave to synthy funny sound.

It's not really a guitar-like tone, but who cares ? Is the whammy really "guitar-like" ??

A great pitch shifter.

Ok, I tested it again.

The reverb is huge, so you gotta be subtle on the slider...

There is a huge hiss when connected with other pedals throught a daisy chain. It has to be powered alone...

But it's in fact the best pitch shifter I ever played with. I own a whammy II, a PS-2, 3, and played with whammy 4 and PS-5. None of them has this...

The tracking is perfect, as said above. The delay is there, of course, as usual, but it's really, really tiny.

But more... I spent time tweaking the pitch and formant sliders, and listening to the result. You can get almost everything, from huge "piano-like" bass to tiny whistling sounds. I said it wasn't "guitar sounding". Yep. It's better than that !!! The formant slider is really a key to a whole world of strange and/or great sounds...

I runned it throught my bass amp. The lows are... oh, what the hell, just got one, you'll see...

Except the fact that you need to be in socks to footswitch it, it's THE pitch shifter you need.

Honestly, guys, I'm stunned...

But isn't it meant to be used with vocals as input? Have you tried that yet?
I would want to use one to make me sound like a smurf. Is that possible?

Unfortunately, I don't have a mic home... I hope I could try this some day...

Kulten, your mp3 link seems dead.

EDIt : ok, I found a mic. It's more a toy than a mic, but... I managed to hear the sound applied to the voice.

The presets are like said in Kulten's thread. A female, a male, a kid and a robot voice. The femelle voice seems not really convincing to me, but the other are fine.

The Formant control allows you not to sound like a smurf.
