Hi black knight
Welcome to the forum from Australia.
Please be more specific. Are you talking about the lithium battery used for the memory Backup, when saving patches?
The GR-33 is designed to run off an external brick type power supply (wall wart). As in the attached picture. (under all the wires)

Hi black knight
All I can think of at the moment is, Did you get the Lithium battery from a reputable source? Did you measure it before using it?
I recently purchased hundreds fro work, & a lot of them were low volts, before we even used them.
We now pre-test all out new batteries. The supplier finally admitted that they we old stock.
The only other thing, you might have a faulty RAM or maybe when you replaced it (soldered it), it might have somehow shorted.
If you can, please upload some pics of the area.
What type of Lithium Cell was it (2032 - 2026)?
If you get another one, test it with a Muiltmeter before using it. And go to a different & reputable supplier.
Lithium's are nominally 3.6V, once they are around 3V, we consider them LOW, and at 2.6-2.8V we consider them to be flat, & unreliable.

excellent news black knight
Don't feel too bad or embarrassed, we all get caught with your pants down. And sometimes, the simplest explanation, is the right one.
I can send you hundreds of flat 2032's, if you need to make a sun reflector...
I hope you hang around with us a bit, now that your GR-33 is up & running again?
off topic a bit I have a as new 1980-81 GR-300 & G-808 controller. All just one year pre-MIDI. But I wouldn't trade it for anything. It has been my main guitar since way back in the 80's,
I have been GAS-sing for one of the later GR-20's, but I can't seem to find any dealers that have one to try out. I figured it was about time, got another one of Roland's Guitar Synths.
Have you used the GR-20?, I read that the GR-33 can be a little bit slow, but still kicks some serious butt.
What do you use your GR-33 for, Live - Project Studio?
I used to use a Susuki XG-1M MIDI controller guitar, until (unknown to me until later-too late) some dipsh!t had played it, with petrol residue on his hands, and the rubber fretboard turned to black goo.
I still have it, but the fretboard as a spare part is now no longer available.
It was a killer MIDI controller, & super fast tracking... now sadly missed.
Susuki - UniSynth XG-1M - pic from an old evilbay post:

Have you used - tried the older Casio MIDI guitars, the one that actually look like a guitar, not the DG plastic toy looking ones?
Do you have any demo recordings of your GR-33 playing?

i only used the gr 33 for live situations, the tracking is a bit slow but it does the job.
i have also been GAS-sing for the GR 20 but its to expensive here in the philippines.they say that the GR 20 is much more easy to use in terms of patch editing.
wow you have the gr 300 and the G-808,great gear sir.
have you tried the axon synths? i read many good reviews about it. Removed excessive white space (Returns) - Moderator |

No the Axon gear is way too Expen$$$$ive out here. I have a heap of reviews & demo's I watch now & then. It does a heap more than the Roland Synths.
On your GR-33, are you using the GK-2 (A) or the newer GK-3 pickup? The Gr-20 sometimes sells for $750 on evilbay out here. But it always seems to be the month that a pile of bills need paying.
I sometime think of getting just a GI-10 or GI-20 interface, but it seems to be too limited.
Do you have any demo's of your Synth playing?

Some people find better tracking from the piezo-based RMC saddles on all the Godin Synth-access guitars. You could try to find some taken from a guitar as parts, or check out their website www.rmcpickup.com to see if you can get them new.. I also believe Ibanez uses a piezo-based hex-output system on some higher-end RGs.
It's too bad the synth technology hasn't really been improved much in the last half-decade.. the GK-3 and GR-20 are the newest products.. (the VG-99 doesn't really count) - I've never even seen an Axon unit around these parts.
Does Gibson's overpriced Digital Guitar (is that the name?) use 13-pin output? hmm.. |

Hey... when I power on my gr-33 unit, it shows me the message "error failure - memory ROM". Reading at internet about the topic, I think the problem is the battery, is ok?
What type of battery I should buy to fix this problem? |

Ok... yesterday, I changed the baterry for CR 2032, and the unit was ok. However, sometimes it stops the sound and paralize all controls... in this case I use a re-initialization, and it become to ok; until the problem appears again.
Somebody can help me? |
