I want one since a long time, to be able to play like tom morello or Dimebag Darell! but it's a bit expensive for me for the moment, and i'd like to know, is there anything else than digitech for the whammys? and if there are only digitech ones, why BOSS or some others labels don't do some?

I can only offer my own research i found out a while back when looking to buy a whammy.... there seems to be conflicting thoughts on the xp 100...some say it's not as good as the original while others are saying now that it's better than the whammy reissues out at the moment...... Dirk had a reissue whammy a while back that he didn't like too much as far as i can recall.....

General concensus with all the comments on forums i've read is the original IVL design for digitech in the original whammys are the most desirable, tone and peformance wise... but originals are pricey.....i think some of the digitech rack harmonizers from that period have the option of an expression pedal for the whammy patches in them.... and with IVL being (i think) a canadian company i saw some of the rack units like the IPS-33 on ebay in canada for around 130/150 and seem to be more of them than elsewhere plus your still getting the quality tracking/sound of the original IVL design....or were you offered a XP at a good price..?....

You're right, I had to keep my foot on it to push the threadle down or else the damn thing would go out of tune.
It also didn't track very well.

In my opinion Digicrap equals wasted money.
Although the old ones are considered better and the Bass Whammy is often praised for it's stable octave down tracking.

Ive had the WH-1, the XP-100 and currently have a whammy II.

the whammy II has the same IVL-chip as the WH-1 but its built more cheaply aside from that(worse bypass, not as tough casing etc)

I like the XP-100 better than the whammy reissue too..
but not as good as the whammy II

the bass whammy doesnt work well with guitar
