Fall, Rise, & Step all sound like Step where it uses sample & hold in a rising & falling fashion.
12(pole) sounds like its Rising.
10 sounds like Falling.
8 sounds like 12 should be.
4 sounds like 10.
So, I really don't have a real 8 or 4 at all.
WTF! Help?

Sounds like a broken mode pot to me; or, at least, a misconfigured one.
Reminds me of that Line 6 Variax I had... the model pot went doo-lally and everything became a banjo or a sitar... there's only so much "Norwegian Wood" you can play before the madness takes you... |

Hi Caliban

You just put a whole new perspective, on that song for me. Do Line 6 now sell that as one of thier Custom Shop options...

I called Roland today & they said like $36/hour + parts. My warranty runs out Oct 24, 2007 so I'll be lookin' like a fiend for my receipt which I'm sure I have.. just buried in the basement.
Generally speaking, do you guys think they can replace a pot or desolder & replace a couple components in an hour? I'm guessing any repair over a couple hours would be worth NOT fixing & relegating myself to the few less modes. |

| hey DeFrag. its definately a gamble since like you said if its more than an hours labor, you can probably buy a cheaper new one. i would take it to a trusted shop first and see what they have to say. |

Hi Defrag
I wish I was closer to you over there.
Take some closeup pics of the inside, lets see if some of us here can help you out.
If they won't upload correctly, send them to Christo & Me in PM.
Other than that! Go straight to your basement, (do-not pass GO), & search like a Mad-Man for the receipt.
Get your son to HELP, especially if your going to get him a Valve amp as well.
Good Luck. Regards Dr. Bob |

We'd probably need a pic of a good ph3's pot. Maybe we can slowly add that to the pedal galley, internal pics My favorite modulation sound, the phaser |

I found my receipt!
At least I won't be paying for parts.. with only 1 day to spare too. You should have seen me last night, I had a giant Rubbermaid tub full of receipts & old bill statements I had to go through. I guess I'm into the full cost no matter which way you count it.. weedin' through for hours to find that damned thing.
I figure at $36/hr (& some shipping), they can blow a couple hours in labor & I'll break even as compared to buying a new PH-3 for $99. Only 90-days labor for the Boss pedals.. THAT'S where they get us.. sucker us in with that gold badge that states 5-year warranty. |

$06 to ship to Roland $20 repair $12 to ship it back --- $38 total which is about an hours worth of my time if I did the job myself so... money well spent. It'll feel like I'm getting a new pedal! (I hope) A couple weeks turn-around ain't bad. |

| Probably a lot. But.. my son bought a late 70s/early 80s Applause (Ovation) 12-string, took it to school, it fell & cracked the neck at the shoulder. A local luth did a bang-up job for under $30 which preserved the value of the guitar since my son bought it for only $80. Its a nice guitar. So, ya never know. I'm starting to think my PS-5 is acting funny. I'll spend some time with it tomorrow to be sure. |

Got hold of a a PH-1 with a broken power input (£58 without box, etc). Had it fixed by a tech at my local music store here in the UK -cost about £35. I know they charge £30 just to take a look - so if the repair is expensive and you're not going ahead with it, you still have to pay the £30. I just wanted the pedal fixed so I could use it in my live rig and I'm glad I did - worth every penny - great pedal. Keeping on the lookout for another as a backup.
Hope you get your pedal fixed OK too DeFrag. |
