where have you been all my life?...so much gain, so bass heavy...so much clipping...oh man, complete sonic destruction, esp. in front of my EQ-20...i love it...my XT-2 has a new best friend...
with all that said, i know a bunch of you guys have like EVERY Boss dirt pedal known to man, so help direct me towards the ones with the most gain if you could...i've heard the PW-2 is decent...tone isn't so much an issue, just gain/noise potential...any opinions would be super cool...
cheers, |

i've basically owned the entire gambit.
in order from highest to lowest:
ML-2 has the most gain out of any by far. sounds like a tube screamer maxed through a mesa mark IV cranked to the gills.
MT-2 is my runner up.
HM-3 is next.
MD-2 i would rank next but i haven't used this enough to say exactly where it sits.
PW-2
XT-2
HM-2
there's a significant dropoff after this point... probably the SD-2 on lead channel. |

The md-2 is my favourite effects pedal. The most underrated of boss pedals. The range of tone you can get is awesome. I mean, for a plug in baby sound i use
Level: 12 (o'clock) Bottom: 3 Tone: 9 Distortion: 2 Gain: 4
try that setting for a beautiful trebly gain. |

Definitely ML-2. And pretty much totally agree with zentropa. He is pretty wise about this subject. Also check into FZ-2.
Glad to see more MD-2 appreciation. It seems like it gets passed over very easily. |

| yeah it was actually why i was so curious about it...i mean i read somewhere it was being dismissed as "too bass-heavy"...and i mean that doesn't exist as far as i'm concerned and i got a deal on one so i couldn't pass it up...but thanks for the wisdom zentropa...i'll looking into getting my hands on a few more of these sooner or later... |

too bass heavy can exist, especially if you are playing bass heavy pickups.
most of the super high output buckers are fairly trebly in nature and the extra bass from an MD-2 or PW-2 fills it in nicely. however, if you are rockin some super distortions in a dark body wood (e.g. mahogany)... it is very possible to over-saturate the low end and fart itself out.

Zen nailed it all and Right Foot Boss mention of the FZ-2 is excellent and very true. It is probably also one of those "overlooked" pedals, as people prefer the FZ-3.
MD-2 is excellent. I liked it from first plug-in and it surprised me a lot.
You do not need to use the bassboost at all. If you leave it alone you can still get awesome sounds out of it, and it can go from OD-1 to HM2/3 and beyond
PW-2 is a sound on its own, lot of gain but not versatile.
MT-2 very versatile and lots of gain, probably more sounds than the MD-2, but MD-2 is close in versatility. |

I see you also like the moderate dist. level on this pedal, and use the gain to boost up bass a bit. Great |
