I use an EMMA ReezaFRATzitz and a Toadworks Death Rattle II. I'm one happycamper, yessir! I know and like the OCD as well. I play soul, funk, fusion on a CS '60 strat and Fender 20ish watt combos. Y'all think I need to check out the Boss OD-3? They all say it's the shit and it's got a little bit of GAS on it already now...
Really THAT good? |

I have not heard those other boutique pedals you've mentioned, so I don't know how the OD-3 compares to them. I like the OD-3, but it hasn't stopped my search for an OD pedal. They certainly are not expensive & you can always re-sell, so I'd say get one & check it out.
Check out this website for demos of the Xotic pedals - RC, AC, & BB.
http://www.prosoundcommunications.com/english/video/index.html
They've got a lot of known players endorsing them & I hear good things from others, too. It may be that they are the flavor of the month, but the videos are worth watching just to pick up a few tips, IMO.
Grace and peace,
Steve

OD-3 is my favourite overdrive, transparent, dynamic, lots of gain, can be used as a clean boost. Before I got OD-3 BD-2 was my number one, also a very good overdrive. I havnt tested any boutique-overdrives so there are perhaps better ones around, but for the price I think OD-3 beats the competition. It sounds very good with single coils, even when drive is cranked. As Phostenix says, you could always sell it if you dont like it.

Damn this web site. Already I've been studying the HR-2, and now I'm starting to think about this one.
C.K. (G.A.S. relapse probably terminal now...)

Hmm, the HR-2 is sweet. I had a PS-5, thinking I could combine HR-2 and Digitech Whammy in one pedal, and the whammy mode on the PS-5 using EV-5 expression pedal doesn't compare to the digitech so I sold the whole thang.
The PS-5 sounds a little shrill on the HIGH OCTAVE RANGE. THE HR-2 is a little more full sounding; but, if you turn up the level on the high octave to max, mine slightly digitally gurgles. A possible explanation MAY be my guitar being slightly off standard tuning (i.e. the pedal starts "hunting" for the correct note"), but both low octave and high octave sound good and the level can be dialed in.
I would take the HR-2 over the PS-5 hands down. |

Steve Steve Steve , You Have us now all hooked to the Xotic pedals.
Great link, great site, watched most of the interviews while I was playing along with some of the riffs from some of those cats, lots and lots of fun, and great to see that they all seem to believe their own words, so I guess now all we need to do is: Check em out for ourselves and go wah wah wah with that Robottalk pedal.
.................Oh and yes the RC and the AC should come in one box, makes really sense to me. |

Paul Jackson, Jr. sure knows how to make that Robotalk groove!
I'll probably have to get a couple of those little boxes someday & check 'em out. They've got some good players using their stuff.
Grace and peace,
Steve

There were certainly some groovy cats on that site.
Tried to get the Robotalk sound with the Boss SYB-5 and a DD-6 and although not the same I could get similar kind of results.
Take any autofilter pedal and use a long delaysound after it and you can get a similar idea. Great stuff!!!

I read on HC that the new BF-3 & PH-3 have step flanger & step phaser settings that will give sounds like the SE-50. Any of you guys or gals ever tried that?

Those Step Phaser and Flangers make me think, their sounds combined with a long delay would get you even closer to the sound of the Robotalk. You see, some pedals have so many options that you simply overlook them. Will try those sounds as I do have access to a BF-3 and PH-3. Thanks Steve for those ideas, great stuff!!! |
