Can anyone tell me if the SD-1 came out in silver screw? I recently got a Japan one, and it sounds great, and it also has the silver screw. Just wondering if it is really silver screw edition, or if someone has just done the dodge.

Well, using "The Boss Book" and this website as references, it's reported that coin screws or "silver screws" appeared as late as BF-2's with serial number 10,000. BF-2's first appeared in June 80 and SD-1's came out in February 81 so the date range seems to lend credence to the possibility of a silver screw SD-1. What's the serial number and it's location? Any other indicators of era you notice?

I'm in Australia, and I don't have it with me at the moment, but I'll post the serial number this pm when I get home. I guess I'd be looking for a super-low serial no. for there to be a chance that it is genuine?

The black screws first appeared around 1981 so I wouldn't be surprised if your silver screw SD-1 is genuine. I've seen a couple of silver screw SD-1s being sold on Ebay so I think it was probably used on the very first batch produced.

Well, it's from the second period ( first period being 4-5 digits, stamped onto the pedal behind the switch section ) and the one I have is serial number 587000 but has a black head screw that dates to not being a first period black plastic screw ( all of this is from the Boss Book / Hal Leonard Publishing ) but a second period black screw. So unless they used the silver screws through your pedal, then switched to first period black plastic for a very short time, and then to the type of screw I have - I would think someone placed the silver screw after the fact on your pedal. Pure speculation of course - the most important thing being that your pedal "sounds great" since that's what we're after (tones), right?

PSM-5 with a silver screw sounds like a replacement. It was first made 1983 and at that time the black screw had been used for a long time already.

There's been some discussion about this before also. I have seen several of these auctions on eBay. One seller that I e-mailed claimed that the serial number was ink-stamped. Can anyone verify that this is possible?

Mine is stamped on the inside on the standard Boss Jap label.
