Hi
Kinda excited 'cause i am getting the little all-valve Fender Blues Jr. amp next week.
Problem though !!!
It is not a mega buck, big feature amp. So, there is no FX-loop, or GAIN CHANNEL ! With no overdrive or distortion, i will have to use some stompbox for that, i believe.
Does any one know, or recommend a pedal(s) that will help the amp to create a "second channel". (other than clean)
I play humbucker guitars, Epi. LP's, and hollow bodies - w. humbuckers
Music i play :
* Electric Blues (Johnny Winter/Eric Sardinas/Muddy Waters) * Blues Boogie (the Faces/Black Crowes) * Rockabilly (Rev. Horton Heat)
. . . all mixed into a type of garage-rock approuch !
THANK YOU
Later
PS
*** does this site notify me if someone reply's, or do i need to check back every time ?

| I imagine you'd be looking for some blues type overdrive rather than distortion so how about a BD-2 or a OD-3? The SD-1 might also be an option perhaps? |

Ah, some one replied - THANX, Mate !
I forgot to mention that I do have the SD-1
I would like to know (seeing that i do not have the amp yet) how the SD-1 will differ from the OD-3. I heard so many "i LOVE" & "i HATE" the OD-3 that i am a bit confused ! (to say the least) And the HC reviews are sometimes a bit scetchy too ! Oh, and i did try the BD-2, on a solid-state 10watter. The amp sounded bad (real bad), but still the BD-2 was the closest to a sound that i liked. So that is on order too !!! NOW, with the BD-2 & SD-1, is it worth the money to get an OD-3 ? (...how does it differ, through a valve amp, from an SD-1?)
Thank you

| I used to have a Fender BJ and used a BD-2 with it. I prefer the SD-1 in front an already distorted large tube amp. The OD-3 has a low end boost. It would probably work well with the BJ too, but BD-2 would be my top choice. |

Hey SirJackdeFuzz I have a Blues Jr. I use at home for recording. I play everything from blues rock to real HEAVY rock/metal. For what you play I highly recommend the BD-2 Blues Driver. It sounds great through the amp and when the gain is all the way up you get a really great rock sound. When you get the amp try volume on 3, treble on 5, bass on 8, middle on 5, master on 3. This gives you a great clean sound so if you use a pedal it comes in nicely. Also, Fender uses Groove Tubes Blue in the amp, I would switch out to Groove Tubes White (just make sure they are a matched set) or Sovtek tubes, which the Groove tubes really are. |

HI SirJackdeFuzz
I love the Fender Blues Junior and personally I think a BD-2 would sound great. Not a big fan of the "fat" switch though.

Thank you guys !
Like i think i said all ready. I ordered that amp on the strangth of a sound clip on Indyguitarst.com' site. But i also think it is the perfect (on B&W) amp for me ! I am looking for that max'd amp tone where you play it at 10, NOT because you can 9or because you are deaf), but because you have to ! I just love the tube (hard) driven sound of a 12" speaker . And seeing that it is a 15watter, i will probaably have to play at 10 at some of the un-mic'ed gigs, although the drummer (girl) is not a big skin-basher at all.
***oh, and thanx for that settings will try in on June 14th, when i am s'poused to get it ! What do you guys think of yer Blues Jr's ???
Have any one ever felt the need to mod any of the Boss products ? Every one in the past that is sayong anything good about their BD-2 (and there aere alot) seems to mhave modded it ? WHY ? I like the stock sound, that's why i bought one !!!
THANX |

Oh, and another thing about the amp.
The only after-market tubes that is avalable here in Soof Arrfrika is standard Sovtek's Is there a pre-amp tube with more gain than the 12AX7's ?

SirJackdeFuzz, First, you probably won't have to cranbk the amp it is extremely loud, you will be impressed. Second, I do have an Analogman DS-1 Distortion pedal and find it to be the best version of the DS-1, here is my review at Harmony Central:
Ease of Use: 10 Three knobs, you turn them and stuff happens so... very easy to use.
Sound Quality: 10 I am using a customized 79 Fender Telecaster with a Strat neck, Seymour Duncan Hotrails in the bridge and a Duncan Hotstack in the neck, Early 80's Charvel and a mid-80s Charvel, Fender Blues Junior 1X12 amp for home recording. I also use a bunch of other Boss effects with this pedal.
The Analogman DS-1 is the sound I always wanted a stock DS-1 to make. I have played the Taiwan DS-1 and the Japan DS-1 and Analogman's DS-1 is the best sounding distortion pedal I have ever heard. I usually have the Tone at 11-12 o'clock, the level at about 12 o'clock and the Dist at 3 o'clock. With the stock pedal I always had to really turn the level way up on the pedal and it really never seemed to put out. Analogman's pedal seems to have more of a boost with the level knob. As for the tone knob, WOW, it finally works. You can now adjust it to what you want rather than what Boss makes you have. The Distortion level is what really shines on this mod. On the original when you turn the Dist on 0 it sounds kind of muddy and flat, like the tone knob went out, and the more you crank it up the more broken-up fuzzy it gets and you loose the distinction of the strings. This especially happens if you pick out distorted chords. With the mod and the Dist on 0 it is like an old Boss OD-1 really dirty and clear, the tone doesn't change when you turn up the Dist either. When I have it on 3 o'clock this pedal really shines. The distortion is very smooth and warm and huge and picked out chords sound amazing. This is by far the best money ever spent on any pedal I have ever owned.
Reliability: 10 Extremely dependable, it's a Boss.
I would never play without this pedal.
Customer Support: 10 I have called Boss for other things like replacement rubber bushings where the screw for the battery is and they have always been outstanding.
Overall Rating: 10 I have been performing and recording music for over 22 years. I play rock along the lines of the Foo Fighters, Rival Schools, Husker Du, Sugar, Third Eye Blind, etc.
If this were stolen I would replace it immediately.
I love that it sounds the way Boss says there stock pedal should sound. Boss says "The DS-1 provides a harder distortion effect for guitar sounds. Instead of toneless, fuzzy distortion, the DS-1 faithfully reproduces all the subtle nuances of your playing dynamics, from whisper-quiet to screaming loud. The onboard Tone control allows you to tailor the overall sound to your liking." The stock Boss pedal does not do this but Analogman's DOES!
Finally, even Analogman says that the stock BD-2 Blues Driver is a good pedal, it is expensive to mod, I like mine the way it is I just have the tone at 12 o'clock, gain at 3, and the level wherever I need it and it sounds great to me. Try it out with the amp and let me know how you like it.
