Until now I had just a SD-1 on my pedal board for overdrive, but recently I came to like the DS-1 a little bit more, and now plan to use both pedals on the pedal board together. Now I wonder if I should place the DS-1 after the SD-1, to boost the DS-1 with the SD-1 when needing more distortion, or the SD-1 after the DS-1, for a midrangy overdrive with more sustain when both are engaged. What order of these pedals is best? I also noticed that I still like my SD-1 for overdrive, but when I play a while through a DS-1, and then go back to the SD-1, the overdrive seems to be quite too midrange focused in my opinion. I just seems as if the use of the DS-1 "ajusts" my ears for a more broad and bass-heavy sound. Did you also experience something like this? |

lol funny you should mention that, I tried them both together for the first time last week and I was really surprised at how good they sound together
Totally down to personal taste, I just made an SD-1 sandwich using DS-1s for the bread and A/B'd them - I personally prefer the SD-1 first then the DS-1 immediately after; sounds really thick and fat and extremely obnoxious - sounds muddy and middy and a lot weaker the other way round.......

On the other hand, I LOVE the SD-1 after the DS-1 to boost level and sustain for solos. The SD-1 has (for me) the perfect EQ curve for a lead boost. Using the same effect order (Guitar-> DS-1-> SD-1) you can use the DS-1 for a gain boost for solos when you're playing a song that needs a mild overdrive sound, using the SD-1 for your main sound. It will give you only a little level boost, since it's first in the chain, but it works very good that way. Actually, a setup like this is what I use in my "practice" pedalboard. Guitar-> DS-1-> BD-2-> DD-3.

Yep good post.... i used to use mine before the OD-2 when they were on my board....and the strange part...i've been seriously thinking of reinstating my DS-1 for rhythm stuff but i can't fit it on my board.... ..in the next few weeks when i finish building my new rig some space on my board will come available,i will probably stick it back on..mine is a old MIJ one and i was wondering before or after the twin tube overdrive as it's been a while since i've used two overdrives on my board...my take on this question was a overdrive replicates the natural sound of an overdriven amp, while a distortion is more like a successor to a fuzz pedal and most players originally had the amp cranked(hendrix, clapton etc..) with a fuzz going in the front end so that was my reasoning on placement of distortion before overdrive...... |

| well the recommended way is to put the sd-1 first and the ds-1 second.BUt most people put the overdrive second to give a boost in there solos. but try it out and see how you like it.it wont harm anything but how you hear your tone either you will like it or hate it |
