well,

stumbled upon another MIJ SD-1 and it just didn't sound right.

was very warm... very warm... warm to the point of smothered and lifeless with no edge. seemed like the op amp wasn't kickin hard enough.

swapped out the 100uf electrolytic and replaced the 1uf electrolytics with metal film and it sounded worse. popped in newer 1uf electrolytics and it calmed down a bit...

tonight modded a buddy's SD-1 w/ the laurie fix and he let me have the 47uf C11 cap and i popped that back into my other SD-1 and bam. it came back to life.

makes me realize that the dud CS-2's i had in the past had dead caps.

This very thing drove me nuts a few months ago.

I was harvesting cheapo pedals for parts, and plopping them in my little spares bins. Unfortunately, one of the donor pedal's e-lytics were just done...

The recipient pedals all worked with the dud caps, but they would sputter on transients or hard chords, to the point that I thought I had the polarity on the caps incorrect. After double and triple checking, I finally figured out that all of the "infected" pedals had bad 10 uF caps from a single donor pedal...

After that experience, I chucked all of the e's that I pulled (unless they were a funky unique value, like a 3.3 uF) and got motivated and placed a decent sized order with Mouser. The e's that I decided on are all NP's and were so cheap that I don't know why I didn't do it sooner. They were certainly cheaper than all of the MF caps that I ordered.
