I recently picked up a grey case Arion SCH-1 chorus pedal in a lot of pedals.
As sometimes happens with these housings, the hinge plastic was damaged. What happens is that the hinge pin breaks the plastic housing away under the pressure of the spring and the treadle sits much higher than it should.
To fix it I did the following: 1) cut two 1/16" lengths of 1/4" brass tube (they looked like tiny little wedding rings) 2) created a "slot drill" by creating some teeth in the end of a piece of 1/4" brass tube (first pic below) 3) glued and clamped the damaged plastic back into the right shape (red arrow in the second pic) 4) used the slot-drill to create a circular slot 1/16" of an inch deep in the plastic 5) glued one of the 1/16" long pieces of brass tube into the slot (green arrow) 6) cleaned the epoxy out of the hinge-pin hole with a #39 drill
The brass ring holds the broken-and-glued plastic together and takes the strain of the hinge pin. The repair is relative non-invasive, doesn't get in the way of anything, and I think it should last the life of the pedal...

Hi Laurie
This is a very clever & excellent repair.
What did you cut the Brass tubing with? And what did you use to cut the tube, to make the slot drill cutter?
I might have to recheck my humble SCH-1's I guess in hindsight, it's probably best to store them with the springs removed.

I cut the tube with a plumbers tube cutter (the cutting-wheel thing you use to cut 1/2" copper pipe), then used sandpaper to clean the edge. I used a small triangular file to cut the teeth in the "drill".
Didn't think about storing Arion pedals with the spring removed... that's a really good idea
Here it is after repairs and cleaning.

Me too, but if you see one of these, it really is worth grabbing it. |

| A fantastic Leslie sim capable chorus pedal. One of the few pedals that I'll always hang on to. Sounds great with distortion in front of it, too. I got a very cool synth type sound out of mine a few years back with distortion in front. I don't remember anymore how I set it up, though.... IIRC, the SCH-1 has a compander chip in it. |

Mike Landau,Scott Henderson and (i think)Lukather use them plus a good few other top L.A.session pro's so possibly part of the reason they got popular and are going up in price.... |
