The L version is for volume control between 2 other pedals somewhere in your chain (or at the end), The H version is what you would use if you wanted to plug your guitar directly into a volume pedal before your chain...

Hi bossgtr
Welcome to the forum from Australia.

You will most likely need the H (high-Z) version if you are connecting it up straight after your guitar.

But you might be able to use the L (low-Z) version at towards the end of a pedal chain, as the pedals typically have a Loz-Z output.

I guess you'll have to experiment, try placing it one back from your last pedal in your pedal chain.
If you stick it right at the very end, & you have a tube amp, it will put too low of a load on the input to the amp, & kill some of your tone.

Once again, you'll just have to experiment.

Regards Dr. Bob
