Mine are first and foremost the Cure (Robert Smith and all other parts of the band), secondly John Lennon, and also Billy Corgan, lastly with a grateful nod to Tori Amos.
Those are mine what's yours? |

| I would like to one day be able to play a little of the stuff from Gilmour. Influences also include EVH, Angus (I'm an Aussie, what can I say!), and a few others. |

Guns N Roses, most notably Duff and Slash and I dig Izzy's rhythm work, I tend to mimic that style. Metallica was a huge influence when we started our first band. Billy Sheehan, he influenced a lot of interesting techniques I use. Megadeth, David Ellefson had a huge influence on my metal bass playing. |

mazzy star rules. i had a huge crush on hope sandoval when i was about 16 (circa 1994) second only to my crush on liz phair at the time.
influences... too many to list.
my own guitar writing sounds like a cross between hum, boys life, and the appleseed cast (although a case could be made that it's more like american football) with a dash of old archers of loaf.
my bass writing is like a cross between nate mendel during his sunny day real estate years, the bassists in dianogah, and oddly enough caitlyn from rainer maria. |

During this phase of my playing, I'd have to say my biggest influences are the MC5, Matt Pike (High On Fire, ex-Sleep), The Glasspack, Trouble, Blue Cheer, and Black Sabbath. I also just realized that my style was heavily influenced by the band TAD, a band which I used to listen to a lot during the grunge-era, but didn't realize their influence on my playing until I saw a documentary about the band recently....
In the past, its been Randy Rhoads, James & Kirk from Metallica, Kim Thayil from Soundgarden...to name a few... |

the guys who made me want to pick up a guitar - Angus Young, Eddie Van Halen, Hendrix, Tony Iommi, Dave Mustaine, Adrian Smith
the people who made me want to do something interesting with it - Thurston Moore, Adam & Jimmy of swervedriver, Kevin Shields, Emma & Miki of Lush, Neil, Rachel & Christian of Slowdive, and Andy & Mark of Ride.
also Ned's Atomic Dustbin for having 2 bass player so there were 3 layers - guitar, high bass and low bass
and that all still stands today! and i'm sure there's some names i'm not thinking of right now |

on guitar, Pete Townshend/the Who and Steve Jones/Sex Pistols were the two most well-known of my influences back in my 'formative' years. if I'd realized that they tuned down, Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath and Randy Rhoads/Ozzy probably would have had greater influence back then as well. I respected folks like Blackmore, Clapton, Hendrix, Page, and EVH, but they always seemed way out of my league. and I didn't 'get' the genius of Greg Ginn/Black Flag and Frank Zappa until a few years later.
on bass, John Entwistle/who? and Steve Harris/Iron Maiden were up there (although my bass playing is nowhere close to their style/proficiency). |
