I'd like to create simple drum/percussion parts to enhance my acoustic trio's live gigs. We have about 60 songs to choose from in our set list. Need to be able to call up any song quickly (in random order) while on stage.
I will use PC software (like ACID) to create MIDI files of the "drum parts" for the songs.
I don't own a laptop with which to trigger a drum sound module.
I've read about the on-board memory shortcomings in DMs like the DR-880. Their strengths seem to be composing & jamming, not on-stage performance.
How many songs will the DR-880 hold?
Can I trigger the DR-880's samples (drums & bass) externally, instead of using a song saved inside the DR-880?
Get an old Akai MPC? They're really well built, especially the Japanese ones . Problem is, they're always popular with the DJ crowd, so a good used one might not be so easy to find.
