It's that time again folks - all that warm and mushy feelings of getting "that" pedal -
Oddly enough, my most "satisfying" boss pedal purchase was when I found a CE-2 at a pawn shop. It sat on my shelf for a few weeks in March after I bought it (3rd baby coming) and then I remembered, heck, I should check out that CE-2 I bought "a few weeks ago".
No, the CE-2 does nothing like a syb 3, or DD-6, but I was astoundedly blown away by the swirly galores coming out of it - and for $40, i was basking in lushy swoosh like i never remembered before. Now, I would only use this pedal very selectively/sparingly but boy, it was boootyful.
My most disappointing purchase was a boss DD-6 - i was soooo looking forward to the reverse mode (which played back at about 50% quieter than the other settings) and was a wee bit too sterile. I had great expectations for that one, and just tried it for an hour and sold it right away through the bargain finder. |

My two most satisfying Boss purchases were an OD-1(A) and a VB-2.
I previously had later versions of the OD-1 that were great, but once I hooked up the OD-1(A), I was in tone heaven!
The VB-2 is straight-up awesome! I didn't get it for a low price or anything, but once I had it up and running, I fully understood why it sells for the prices that it does. Unfortunately I doubt I'd ever feel comfortable using it outside of the rehearsal studio or recording studio, as in a live situation, because if anything happened to it (beer spilled on it, getting it stolen, etc.), I'd be ruined!
My least satisfying Boss purchase? Hmmm... Not sure about that. An unsatisfactory pedal could always be modified to suit my ears. I'm not big on the MD-2, XT-2 or PW-2 though. I suppose if I played thrash or metalcore or hardcore, it'd be a different story though. |

The DSD-2. A few years back I spent a whole day in hospital getting probed from every angle. When I finally got out of there I felt such pity for myself that I went and bought the DSD-2. It was the first pedal I bought that I didn't plan to use on my pedal board. It was probably at that point I started collecting Boss pedals. |

I just finished my searching on eBay for the morning and reminded of two others ...
I picked up a small "lot" of 5 pedals last year, in there an AW-3 and an HR-2.
The HR-2 was AWESOME, especially compared to a 'tinny' ps-5 and the rather 'fake' aw-3.
The HR-2 is a staple, and, well the AW-3 and PS-5 are now in the hands of 2 happy Canadian eBayers!

About three years ago I was in a little music-store looking around, saw a mint SG-1 I bought it for about $60. I remember that it was rare as I had the Boss book but I was not collecting Boss-pedals at the time. Well, this SG-1 started the madness Its still the crown og my collection.

| Mine would have to be my XT-2...I just thought I'd give it a try and I loved it...And yes I'm aware most of you guys on this place hate it but maybe that adds to the sentimental value...And the fact that I got it for like 30 bucks helps...lol...cheers... |

i nearly wet myself when i saw it (2 drops of pee came out) and i snapped them up straight away.

The most satisfying moment as a collector was when I recieved a box in the mail containing an SP-1 and a VB-2 which I had bought from the same seller. I didnt get a bargain, but the opportunity to be able to purchase them. I remember the moment unpackning the box and holding the SP-1 in my hand examining it closely and convincing myself that it was mine. Then having the luxury of picking up the VB-2 and holding that one too felt almost overwhelming.
A few weeks later I ended up buying an SG-1 from the same seller aswell. I had never seen these three pedals before other than on pics in books and on the net, and didnt think I was going to get the opportunity to own any of the Holy Grails for a long time to come, if ever.

Hi guys,
A few of my favourite 'scores' from pawn shops were (prices in Australian dollars):
MIJ mint OD-1 for $30 - sold it on ebay for $270 (bought a Zakk Wlyde set of EMGs from that score)
mint with box TU-12 for $75
near mint DC-2 for $40 - sold it on ebay for $250 (sounded sooooo good, especially the 4th setting. I'm kicking myself that I sold it though...)
If I ever see another DC-2 I'll buy it and this one will be a keeper! I'm hoping to score a CE-2 and a PH-2 soon so gotta keep looking in those pawn shops!

I must say my 1988 MIJ DS-2....I compared it to my 2002 MIT DS-2 and here are the differences:
MIJ DS-2 MODE 1 - Fat warm sound and pleasent similar to that of the "metal screw" DS-1, based on low frewuencies
MIT DS-2 MODE 1+2 - having put all knobs on both pedals at the half-way position..the MIT pedal has a volume drop more than half the way down, that is, to have both pedals on same volume level, having the volume on the MIJ version on 1/2 I have to turn the volume up to more 3/4 on the MIT version - Has an ugly empty tinny sound in mode 1 - In mode 2 sounds like a dying fuzz pedal
MIJ DS-2 MODE 2 - boost on mid frequencies giving it the right sound for a "MOLLYS LIPS-NIRVANA" sound and punk distortion in general
I sold the MIT version 2 weeks ago for around 150 USD, I only paid around 50USD for the MIJ version with original box and instructions. THE BEST DEAL
