| Is this possible? I have a CE-5 that is just lousy-sounding in mono. I was wanting to swap out a diode or two and try red LEDs. Is this possible at all with surface mount components, or will I just wreck it? I can definitely see where the diodes are, and they are small, but... |

Hi Busk
First of all, welcome to the forum from Australia.
I think you might be getting confused with replacing diodes in a distortion-overdrive pedal.
While changing the clipping diodes in dirt pedals will modify the characteristics of the sound.
Changing Diodes in a Chorus, will generally, not produce any changes in tone.
Unless of course, you were using the term "diode" to refer to other components in general.
Perhaps you could re-post your intentions, & what you expect to archive with your CE-5.
As you may be aware, there are 2 different circuits used in the CE-5. The older analog BBD IC CE-5, & the newer, more recent digital LSI IC CE-5.

Thanks Bob. I was thinking this thread would get moved. Anyway, I have a new CE-5 which I assume is all digital because it's all surface mounted components. I was indeed thinking that pulling some diodes and replacing them with red LEDs would have a similar effect as with the dirt pedals i've messed with: more mids, more cleaner gain.
Basically, I think the tone is a little blah and digital sounding. I want to warm it up. My ideal would be to get some of the qualities of the EH electric mistress flanger or the older Ibanez 9 series chorus from the 80's. I may be out of luck with this box. |
