I have a question for all the folks on this forum outside the US. I'm starting to sell on ebay and I'm selling a bunch of little things to get experience as a seller before I sell any pedals.
Do all of you use PayPal to buy things from US sellers?
Do you have confirmed addresses with PayPal? Is that difficult to do outside the US?
I notice that a lot of sellers just won't sell internationally to keep it simpler. I want to open my auctions up to international buyers, but I also want to be as smart about it as possible. I've made some of my items available internationally (sorry, Snoopy and Opus are not available ) so that I might get some experience with it, but I'd love any advice you guys can give me. How does your customs stuff work?
I've sold some memory to a guy in Spain, but he does not have a confirmed address and is very new to ebay. We're e-mailing back and forth to try to work it out.
well, here in the philippines, we do not have paypal. the easiest way we can buy from ebay is by money or bank transfers (e.g. Western union) unless we know somebody in the US who has a paypal account.
I always use paypal. In the past I've transfered money with Western Union but paypal is much easier so I don't use anything else today. I have a confirmed address but didn't get one until I overran my paypal limit and was forced to get one. To get a confirmed address I had to give paypal permission to automatically draw (direct debit) money from my account. It didn't take long and was no hassle but I will have to trust paypal not to steal my money.
Never had any issues with customs. If I buy something from a company they will add local taxes but something shipped from a private seller gets sent straight through. Maybe I've just been lucky?
I think they add 17.5% taxes regardless of the value. I've ordered a few times from stewmac and that's always what they add. I've not had to pay taxes on any pedals I've bought. Don't really know the rules in detail though.
