I realize that a compressor in a pedalboard usually goes in front of most other pedals to increase sustain, minimize noise, & normalize the signal for envelope followers.

Rack-mounted compressors are most commonly connected through channel inserts or aux sends which really only normalizes the signal post effects.

I'm looking for a high quality compressor/limiter with or w/o gating. I'm not sure I should get a:

1. pedal type before my other effects & only normalize my guitar signal

2. a rack type that connects to my guitar channel in my mixer to normalize the guitar only, or

3. a rack unit that connects to aux send (EFX) & normalize the entire mix

Hep me, hep me!
