| I'd like a giant rubber/plastic plug or panel to snap-fit into an open back. It could have subordinate ports (holes) that have their own snap-fit covers so we could tweak the bass response etc. |

| They don't seem to offer them anymore, or I just can't find it on their websitire, but EarCandyCabs used to offer speaker enclosures with a removable-half of the back cover to get a closed or more open back speaker options from 1 cab. |

That's a good idea DeFrag. Lopo make a convertable cab, but no selective ports. http://www.lopoline.com/2x12ccabs.html I bought a cab of these guys and the fit and finish is second to none. They are made in the USA and their service and speed of delivery was excellent, the expected border delay not withstanding. |

Dr Bob advised me to put hinges on a flap the the back of my cab for something similar..i went with a open back with some nice brass mesh in the end,i had,a bit like the stuff on the front of the gibson goldtone amps(sorry about the delay on the pics pedals4pv but i leave the cab in the bands ford transit,i'll bring a camara to the next gig.. )...i like open back amps and cabs,it's just a personal preference soundwise for the type of music i play, but i can see the idea of using a rubber bung to let the sound out for different venues and to change the acoustics of the cab,but there is a school of thought with guitar speakers to which sound better in open or closed back cabs.....i.e. celestion V30's ,..i heard people swear their better in a closed back and the you see them in a lot of open back combos.... ....so i would imagine that the speaker might need to be a bit of a 'halfway house' soundwise.... maybe mixing two different types..i.e ...Matchless used a V30 and a greenback in a lot of their 2x12 combos...or possibly even a JBL and Eminence etc...i am only guessing here but if the ohmage was the same i would imagine the it would work..the V30 and the greenback have different SPL ratings but seem to be OK together...... |
