Hi!

I am going to buy in a few days a recording studio machine, but my problem is that I dont know exactly which one would be the best.

I have had a few years a go a Fostex VF80 machine, but it was very very difficult to use and for that reason the progress of every song took me really a lot of time...

Which one of those do you recommend to buy?

Boss BR-900 CD or Fostex MR-8 HD/CD?

Did any of you have already the chance to test them?

If you say that Boss would be the best brand, would you think that BR-900 would be enough or should I try to get a better model, BR-1180CD or 1200CD.

By the way, are those Boss machines easy to use compareing them to Fostex VF80 or MR-8 HD.

My intention is to record some songs including guitar playing, bass, drums, synthesizer, vocal and background vocals.

Thanks for your answers!

If you want the *best* recorder, look into the Korg MR-1000. It delivers an astonishing 1-bit/5.6 MHz, doubling industry DSD recording quality standards & provides simple, easy to navigate menus. Its just a high-definition recording platform & is extremely easy to use. Unfortunately, it costs $1200 but I have one & wouldn't part with it.

My friend has the Fostex MR-8 HD (no CD) & although it worked, it was finicky. It locked up a few times during recording/deleting etc. I didn't need built-in effects as I wanted pristine tracks for processing in my DAW & a reliable method to archive high resolution music files.

Of course, Sound Devices some really high-end recorders but I think their target audience would be prosumer field-recording. They don't provide the extremely high-definition sampling that the Korg does but man do they make quality, feature laden field pres, mixers, & recorders.

Your choice of the BR-900 or Fostex is as fair as the market really provides around $500 but don't discount the Roland CD-2 or Zoom HD8CD, for about the same price if the more expensive units I've mentioned above is too much.
