I am thinking of selling or trading (locally or evilbay) my Boss PH-3 (MIB), because I never seem to use it (and given my finite resources, I'd like to get something else). generally speaking, I don't use phase shifters very often, but when I do, my Boss PH-1r usually gets the nod. (my other phasers include a MIT PH-2 and DOD FX20 and FX20B 'phasors'.)
therefore, I'm looking for advice and suggestions from other bossarea users. PH-3 fans, why shouldn't I get rid of mine? and if I do get rid of it, do you have any suggestions for a 'better' phaser to seek instead (I'm open to other brands like MXR or EH)? any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance! |

I second that, keep it. Try using your PH-3 in 4 stage mode with your PH-1r set differently. Add an expression pedal for fun A PH-3 is on my list to go with my PH-1r |

Sell it, get an early 80s Phase 90 (from about 81-82 ish). There was a short time frame in which the block logo version had a power jack and an LED, and was still made by MXR, before Dunlop bought them out.
They're a great deal (about $50 ish) and cheap because they're not the "script" version. |

I hope i'm not too late on this ... I liked the many modes, but hated the volume drop on 4 stage setting. I bought 3 to see if it was a design flaw, or I got a bum pedal. All 3 had it, and alas, to me, was a design flaw.
Before I put the PH-3 in the coffin, I compared deftly with multple PH-1r pedals and PH-2s as well. The PH-1r fully completely rocks, the PH-2 was very organic, but lacked the lush 4 stage sound. The PH-3 was harsh and artificial compared to the PH-1r and the PH-2.
Get a 1r and you will not be disappointed.
If you are a nut for 70's Grab a Maestro phaser, the one with the huge lighted wheels on the side, with controls labelled balls and speed. Need I say more? |
