| I am looking to get a new acoustic guitar.I need an opinion I am looking to get a martin 28 series but i am not sure of getting a D-28 or a OOO-28. I tried out the righty D-28 that they had in stock.its a little bigger body then the OOO.BUt really not much i would say about a 1/2 overall bigger. but felt right and had a better bass response. What is your opinion |

D-28 for chord work.. definitely 000-28 for fingerstyle or more solo work. Especially if you're jamming with somebody else. The D-35 is well priced in comparison with the 28 stuff. 3-piece back.
Look @ martins with "forward shifted bracing" - it makes a huge difference in tone. Look @ 000-28V maybe? or the HD-28V I think has that. Another great model to check out is the D-21 Special. amazing!! |

| i tried out one d28 righty and had no problem with soloing or anything like that.I am looking for good sound. the lefty they had there was an acoustic electric and a 000 body it didn't have the bass of the 28.Also it has sat in the store for months and badly needed a set up and it was a longer scale like the 28 with super high action and i still could do solo work. |

A 000 or OM or other small shape won't have the bass of a dreadnaught. That's a given.
Martins take some time to open up. Like 10 years, and more. Many new Martins in-store sound a little tight and boxy, but they're rewarding down the line. So, a dred will get more mids and clarity over the years, and an OM or OOO style will get richer bass (and more of the top frequencies). Think of this when you hear the guitar in the store.. my faves are any 00- or 000- in -18V or -28V, or the aforementioned D-21 special. Really wow.
From your description, it seems you want a lot of bass. So, go for the dred.. the HD would be an upgrade over the D, for sure. but that 21 is something else..
If you're not hooked on the Martin brand, look around a bit at the Taylor GS style, they give a lot of bass with a balanced top-end, or a Larrivee D-09 or D-10 ($), which I think is the best of the bunch, brand new. Your best bet is a 70s D-28, HD-28 or D-35, which you might find for $1500-2500 given this buyer's market we're in. |

| ok i went to GC to try out a bunch of guitars.I am lefty to let you all know.I tried out a bunch of dreads a hd-28,d35 and a d42. the craftsmanship is amazing.I tried also a 000 and had more bass response with that one. And the tonal response i found was so very little to my ears and i am picky the 000 has alot more top end to it as well.So i think i am gonna bite the bullet and get the 000-28L. i mean if a 000 is good enough for Clapton it should be more then good enough for me. I could just find a great set of stings to balance it out if i find the 000-28L to bright i could just get a darker sounding set of strings. I mean it is a Martin and i know i will be happy with whatever 28 i get,Just the 000-28 feel better as well |

My OMC-15E is great but would lack a little bottom-end for most people. For me, its a good compromise between the Martin sound, size, & accessibility on the fretboard.

Before you do anything to it in terms of adjusting the saddle, bridge, nut etc. I'd suggest checking out the following site (unless you already know what you are doing 100% and are sure the saddle sanding is what you need to do)
http://www.frets.com/FRETSPages/pagelist.html#Musician
I guess if you mess up the saddle its not that hard to get a replacement though. |
