its definately classified as an overdrive. and a great one at that. it sounds good alone, driving another pedal, or getting driven by another pedal. i give it 5 stars!

How does the SD-1 compare to it? Ive only heard the clips and I learned not to trust them, I know the BD-2 is supposed to have more gain, but does the sd-1 sound any more classic/warm/tighter ? thanks

good question. the BD-2 has more gain than the SD-1. it also has more character. to be honest, i consider the SD-1 to be a very mild overdrive as it isnt too powerful on its own. but its GREAT as a booster

I concur with StratoSphere's comments. I had an SD-1 for years and it was way too mild for my tastes, and I'm not a hard distortion fan. It just didn't cut it for me. The Blues Driver has a little more gain, a beautiful bluesy grind, although I feel a stock BD-2 lacks bottom end. I bought a Keeley-modded BD-2 a few years ago and I'll never look back.

Thanks for the input folks. I'm glad that I didn't buy the sd-1 then. As far Boss goes, I only have the 2 pedals, ds-1 and bd-2, but the bd-2 seems quite more usable, I really only get one good sound from the ds-1. I think its great that Boss still makes analog boxes. I wish I had been around earlier to have gotten some of the others. Now I'll have to find out about the od-3 . |

I like BD-2 very much, the stock one is great, but as mentioned above, lacks a little bottom. It could be harsh on some settings, nearly fuzzy. Even better is a Stinkfoot modded BD-2, more bottom and less trebly, not as harsh as the stock. It has been a favourite for long but I have lately been using SD-2 in crunch mode more and more, this is also a very good OD.

I just went through the list of BOSS compact pedals here ever made, looking for all the gain ones, and its depressing all the stuff I'll probably never get to try. Too bad boss doesent seem to be into reissues lol.
