425700 May 1984 - no "DC Supply Board" on the back of the power jack (or anywhere)

568200 July 1985 - "DC Supply Board" in place

Nice discovery.
Is this board just for connecting the wires or are there any circuit changes between these two pedals?

The board contains power conditioning circuitry that is absent on the early version. The wiring loom is also different - different connection point numbers, different ground "harness".

The DD-2/DD-3 schematic circulating on the www is for the later version.

On the public schematic, there is a board shown on the left of the diagram called "DC SUPPLY BOARD". That board, and all the associated electronics is missing. The power is supplied like any other Boss pedal at the time.

Does it affect the sound in any way?

Not that I can tell. I'm presuming that the power conditioning was added in the later production runs because the pedal was susceptable to noise on the power supply.
