As you have all probably seen on TV and read in the papers there are some really bad fires going on in southern Australia. I got an e-mail from Dr Bob yesterday, feb 8th, he writes, as I understand it, that there is a fire very close to his home. As we all know Dr Bob writes all the time on the forum (he seems to never sleep), but there has been a silence since yesterday, its a bit worrying. So Bob, if you read this, please let us know about the situation at your home!

Hi Goran, Sp-1 & guys
Thanks for your all you concerns, I did pop in very late last night.
I was tied up, replying to many emails, concerning our situation.
To be really honest, I debated saying anything on the board, in some ways it was just too tragic. I didn't really want to bring the mood of the forum down. I debated this situation for many hours. Then finally decided not to post a thread, unless specifically asked.
It's very bad here, hard to describe unless you know about how fierce Australian Bush fires can be.
The temps here were 47.6DegC around our area. And as high as 50+ degC in the north of the state, where our son & out nephew were. Both arrived home safely but a bit worst for wear, many roads out of the area were blocked.
If you look on the Age newspaper Website in Australia, you will see more than I can describe. But look for a more up to date page, as the death toll has more than doubled since last night. Some pics & videos on that page.
http://www.theage.com.au/national/death-toll-rises-from-bushfires-20090208-80jv.html
If you want more specifics, you are welcome to email me, the loss of life & homes, is still rising. I will reply in greater detail, but like I said above I think it's best to keep these figures off the forum.
In fact, while I was was typing this very reply, we lost power for a short while, that's the first time in many years.
Luckily for the restore session functionality of Firefox, I didn't loose a single letter of this reply.
I should write a thanks to the developers, & should recommend it for use buy our emergency services, my brother in law belongs to one in the north west of our state.
Regards & thanks to all for your concerns, bother here & in your PM's
If you guys feel the consensus, is that I should post more details here, please let me know.
Regards Bob & the family. |

These fires are really bad....i'll say a little prayer that Bob and family are ok....i got a bulk PM from him yesterday afternoon (GMT)probably the same one Goran got and at the time he was still ok,he said the fires were a few km away from them..... the worst part about the whole thing is that on the news earlier the PM of Australia said it looks possible that these fires were arson...... ....if they were that is a really sick thing to do..... |

Franzoni thanks for all your concerns & thoughts. We are safe for now.
Yeap, send beer & all your old unused pedals... Just trying to keep up my sense of humor guys... but either would be good...
Yes there is much talk about it being Arson & even worse. We call them fire bugs here. I guess we will know more as the week goes on. I know that investigations have been on the way since yesterday some time.
There were too many fires on Too many fronts, for it to be accidental Plus they were no thunderstorms & lightning strikes.
They are already being called, the worst fires Victoria has ever experienced. I heard that there are at least 20 to 25 fires still burning. 5 of them are still causing concerns. The age has a large gallery of the fires.
Regards Bob & the family. . . . I didn't, & wont post any pictures, you can go the the web links if you choose to.
I think that's fair, & respectful to the families that lost their homes, lives & family members.

Great that everything is fine with you & your family Dr Bob I was reallyy worried for some time, the pictures in Swedish newspapers was/is really shaking... And thanks for the reports, I know it must be a very sad experience for you and all other people in the areas of the fires. But write as much you wish, its much more "near" if someone we knows tells us about the whole catastophe.
And you know you cant be off this forum many hours before we wonder where the hell is Dr Bob????? In the future you may even need to make a post on the forum when you take a pee... |

Dr. Bob - that's really great news that you and your family are all ok. Your PM had us all worried.
We've got a relative that we thought was in the state but through Facebook, we established that she's ok - just very frightened and shook up - certainly brought it a bit closer to us. We can't imagine how it feels for you.
Keep your chin up mate and take care - we'll be thinking of you and your family. This forum is not just about Boss pedals - I think we look out for each other too - that's what makes it worthwhile being part it and such a good place to be.

Glad to hear you are okay Dr Bob, it did cross my mind to start a topic along these lines as well. Forest fires are terrifying things, my girlfriend is from California and last summer we weren't too far away from the fires when visiting friends. Being from England it's hard to imagine something like that happening. I hope you stay safe, make sure you have plenty of emergency supplies etc, it pays to be prepared. |

Glad to hear you is okay Doc, but how the hell does something that is surrounded by water catch on fire? Seriously though, be careful... |
