Recently, I stumbled across a DIY daisy chain project on generalguitargadgets.com and was a bit suprised by what've found there.
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=180&Itemid=200
Daisy chain jacks were connected in series.
I know that when jacks are connected in series voltage is being distributed among the load, thus if two or more pedals are connected they *won't* have 9V at their input. Only the current will be the same for all pedals and its value will depend on impedances of the connnected pedals (which isn't good either since all pedals have different current draws).
Now, when jacks are connected in parallel, voltage stays the same at all the inputs. Current is being distributed among the pedals and each one of them should draw enough current for itself.
What's the catch?

I think the author of the article mixed up what series actually mean. If you connect them in series and add 3 pedals, each would have a supply of 9V/3 = 3V. Needless to say none of them would work very well.
There is a link to a gif where there is a red wire connected to each of the power outlets. That's not connecting them in series is it?

That was my first thought, but I thought it was funny because this guy works for ggg.com, and presumably, he knows about electronics.

The voltage depends on the impedances of all three pedals, as I mentioned above. If the impedances are equal, than the voltage would be 3V for each.

I thought that the gif was also a bit strange because it doesn't actually show the way the jacks are connected, and that's because another wire (probably ground) is missing. Luckily, we got this forum to depend on. Cheers! |

I made one of these boxes about 10 years ago and I still use it today. 1x 9V in and 7x 9V out. Here's a picture:

A bit messy in the corner there... |
