The reviews over in Harmony Central appear to slag this pedal with respect to sound quality -- is there some additional feedback on the performance of the RV-2 that could be heard from owners here?
I'm considering using one to more or less replace the spring reverb in my amplifier -- in other words, it would probably be on all of the time at a not overly obtrusive level to add some "hall" ambience to the sound.
Could it be placed effectively at the end of a chain of effects?

IMHO, the RV-2 sounds pretty good, but its reverbs sound nothing like spring reverb from an amp. the RV-2 *will* provide "hall" ambience to your sound, though presumably so will the other RV-series Boss effects....
regarding placement, I'd put it at the end of the chain. the only question is whether it should feed the amp's input or be placed in the effects loop.... |

| I think mine sounds fine. There're many who think it sounds better than the RV-3 or RV-5. |

Easy one to answer -- it's an old tube amp that doesn't have one.
Are spring reverbs stable enough to use live? I'm thinking about the problems one might run into from vibration or accidental bumping of the amp cabinet.

from my limited experience (a Mesa head with reverb, and also a Fender Twin reverb), yes. if a head is knocked off a cab, or a combo amp is knocked over, then you probably have bigger problems than reverb stability... |

Soundwise i'd say its pretty good.It does the big hall thing very well. I cannot compare it to an RV 3 or RV 5 though: never heard em. |

I like the RV-5. It sounds pretty good to me. But if I had to choose one of the RV pedals, I'd go for the RV-3. I guess I'm a delay junky at heart. |

I have tried all of the RV series side-by-side. I ended up going with the RV-2. The RV-3 was a very close second, however. Both perform well with both clean and distorted tones, and both can be set as obtrusive and unobtrusive as you wish.
I have mine in a very similar setting as what you're talking about as well -- stahlhart. I use an Ampeg J12t and Silvertone 1484 together and keep the reverb on all the time. Sounds great.
I've considered picking up an RV-3 at some point to use the Reverb+Delay ability.
As for the RV-5, I think it's good only if you plan to use it with clean tones. I've tried my roomate's out with a wide variety of overdrives, fuzzes, and distortions and it always comes off too harsh sounding no matter how I EQ it. Others have reported the same issues.
So, if I were shopping for one of the RV series, I'd go with the -2 or -3 depending on how you plan to use it. Hope this helps. |

RV5 can give you springreverb, but when you use a delay after your reverb you can create that idea that you are using springreverb.
Interesting -- thanks for the suggestion here. If I do end up with a reverb pedal I'll be sure to run some experiments along these lines.
