I've lost the last 30 or so boss auctions in the last 2 months. This is war.

if it makes you feel any better, I'm about out of disposable $$$ for the next month or two (property taxes are due, plus x-mas shopping), so I shouldn't be in your sights. just out of curiousity, what were some of the things you were bidding on?

Just wait a few more weeks and you'll win the auctions. X-mas is a good time of year to get bargains on Ebay. I don't think people are paying as much notice as usual. Maybe they're away or maybe they're just liquered up. I've made some of my best buys over x-mas.

Bossarea, no more sniperactions please!!! as you only help to put the price up for no reason, and if you do need to snipe, make sure you do get it man!!!

Now why did you want another SD-2?? Thought you already had one?? Wanted to do some A/B tests then?? Off course, each one of them sounds different, so it may be worth gettting as many as you can

Heh man, I am only joking but seriously I could have done without the extra money you did put on top of that price. No need for it eh? No one is helped with it, unless you work for Ebay, or are part of the Dealer Mafioso Gang

In the past people did post requests like we should help each other on Ebay instead of competing. Would not mind sharing pedals, or lending pedals out to others, but it may be a little risky with sending them abroad and all of that.

Perhaps we should leave all of this for our Annual meeting, where we could have a change to see what each of us does with all those pedals, and what kind of sounds we all produce.

Talking about dealers, it seems that the site has attracted some of them, not a bad thing, now if they only would offer their pedals at a much lower bidding price, I can think of some folks who start usually with a high price, shall not mention any names as we all know them here, but really.....................Start with low prices people and you will attrack more bidders. Especially those of use who would like to try each and every pedal which has ever been produced on this globe

Okay so no NO NO NO more bidding against each other otherwise I may have to bid on one of these and learn how to use it as well

cheers

Actually I don't have a SD-2. I got all the distortions except the SD-2 and FZ-3 so you probably see why I bid a little extra to get them.

And... I don't think sniping pushes the price up. No one knows my bid before it's too late. If I bid early I think it's more of a chance a bidding war develops and the item becomes overpriced. I haven't researched my theorys though

No I think you are right there, usually my own theories fall flat on their face, I am a bit like reinventing the wheel every day. Makes live interesting, but hard at times as well...........so I may push up the price myself by my own actions.

One of my pupils [she is a very bright one] gave me the advice to bid early, and I could see here point, but not everyone is detered by this as we saw tonight.

So you do not have an SD-2? Okay then tonight's episode makes sense.
Thought I read somewhere on the site that the SD-2 was one of your favourite pedals. Must have mixed that up with an other user from around here.

I will tell you another little story about the SD-2:

About a year ago I could buy one from a shop. It was a discontinued one which had to come from Swansea Roland. Made contact with Roland through Sound Control. The guy from Sound Control ordered it, and took them a few weeks [you know, people forget, so you keep asking, but they still forget, so you go back again until finally...............] Pedal was there, message on my phone said that it was ready for me to collect. Was a little busy at the time, so in between the call and me picking the pedal up there must have been 3 to 4 days. Wish I had acted a bit quicker!! When I arrived at the shop they could not find the pedal anywhere, staffmembers were running around yelling at each other"Where is that little yellow pedal?" "Has anyone seen it yet?" I was assured that it had come in, and that one of the Staffers had put it somewhere on a desk. [Very unsensible thing to do, to leave around a small item like this in a large busy shop where things can be easily picked up and .................] So up till today noone really knows where that pedal went, they all think that someone was so kind to take it home for a little play.

Agh well what can you do? Wait for a second change, and in some cases it may take a year before it comes around.

Last SD-2 which came around went for about 32,- I was well aware of the auction, and at the moment of the auction was in a pupil's house and was about to ask if I could check out my Ebay account, but I thought: "Sodd it, this silly Ebay stuff, let us just forget about it for today" Pitty that we not have that kind of attitude all the time, life would certainly be more joyful and playful....................

So let us hope you do get the other one Bossarea, think you deserve this now as it is not a bad distortion/overdrive pedal.

I tend to agree with Bossarea on the pricing. If you bid early, it just invites people to outbid you. It also lets unscrupulous sellers shill bid you. (I've had that happen too) If you snipe late enough, no one gets a chance to think about whether they want to go a few more higher.

There are only 2 times that I like to bid early:

1. I know I won't be there for the auction to close.
2. There is a set price that people won't go above, e.g. others selling on ebay for a Buy It Now price. Remember, a tie goes to the first bidder. I did win one auction that way. The sniper bid the same as my earlier bid.

My #2 theory goes out the window on a consistent basis. If people are willing to bid more for something than you can get it elsewhere, I guess there's no dealing with that....

Grace and peace,

Steve

Agree with Sunburst. You can find any Boss pedal locally sooner or later, and often to a better price. It may take a little longer time, but they are there.

Over here EBay has more or less killed off the local market.
The local stores and classifieds rarely have any used gear anymore.

I rarely ever 'snipe' an eBay auction -- I always forget -- but I try to wait until at least the last day to bid.

you can find some real bargains on eBay, and you can also get ripped off more easily than if you bought locally. I hadn't been burned by Boss auctions until recently, when a 'MIJ' PH-3 wasn't MIJ, and then a separate auction for a MIJ DS-2 that looks like it previously lived at the bottom of a lake.... on the other hand, I've previously scored a MIJ mint in box HF-2 for ~$50 delivered, and had a few other 'steals'....
